2015 Summer Recap - Week 1

Last year, I loved doing weekly re-caps of our summer, so I thought I'd do it again this year.  We are in our second week of summer, but our first week of summer was awesome!  It has been so nice not to have to be out the door by 8:00am.  We have not been lazy and have actually been out the door by 8:40 most mornings, but I don't always have to make lunches before hand.  In reality, we are all morning people, so getting up early isn't really the issue.  What I have really liked is not having to get back out to pick up kids in the afternoon.  Once we leave in the morning, we are home at lunch or just after and then we are home for the rest of the day.  We don't have to worry about watching the clock or climbing in and out of the hot car again!  I LOVE that!  So with all that said, here's what we did our first week of summer!

All of us girls are taking gymnastics, so Mackenzie starts her class, then a little bit later Meredith goes to hers and then Miranda and I go to our class.  Miranda loves to do all of it except the trampolines!  She's a little skiddish of her coach, but hopefully that will change as the summer progresses.  Either way, it's fun for all of us!

We also stocked up on library books and had our first D.E.A.R. time.  It stands for Drop Everything And Read.  When Miranda took a nap on Monday, I set a timer and read to the big girls for 30 minutes.  We actually split this time up because Meredith's still a little young to really pay attention to and enjoy chapter books.  After the first thirty minutes, the next 30 minutes was spent alone so that we could each read whatever we wanted.  Meredith had the hardest time with this, but I finally remembered there were books on the ipad and had her look at those, since you can pick the "read to me" button.  We only did DEAR time once this week, but I plan to do it at least 3 times a week on normal summer weeks.

We also had fun playing in the water with our church playgroup.

Miranda played for maybe 5 minutes and then sat in my lap the remainder of the time.  She gets so attached to me when we are in groups, which is a bit annoying, but I'll get over it. ;)

Our big fun was going to Schlitterbaun in New Braunfels for a little vacation.  The girls had so much fun and I plan on doing a bigger post just about that!

We left Schlitterbaun early, so we took the girls to see a movie on the day we were supposed to be driving back.  Brandon and Mackenzie had already seen the movie "Home" earlier this Spring, but the rest of us hadn't seen it, so a family movie it was!  This was Miranda's first movie and she did great.  She didn't scared at all with the dark or sound, so that was great.  In fact, she fell asleep about 20 or 30 minutes in, so clearly she enjoyed the movie! ;)

And finally, on Saturday we took the girls to fly a kite and play at Mackenzie's school playground.  Meredith had been asking to fly a kite for the last few weeks and the weather said we would have some wind (since a storm was passing through), so we jumped at the chance to do it.  Patience is not a strong suit for 3 and 6 year old girls.  There was a lot of whining and complaining, but they each got to fly it and then they were ready to get back to the playground!

That's week 1!  This week is a little more laid back, but still busy!
