Meredith is 20 months!

Meredith is 20 months old today!  That means in just 4 short months, the current baby of the house will be 2!  I'm not one to wish my kids were babies again.  I'm always thankful they are getting bigger and older.  Let's just say the baby stage is not my favorite stage of children.  I'm not saying I don't like babies it's just that I'd much rather have a toddler walking and communicating with me using more than just cries.  We are finally getting there with Meredith.  Her vocabulary has sky rocketed in the last month!  I've been trying to keep track of all her words/phrases in the last couple of weeks to be sure I remembered what she says on a regular basis.

eee you! (I see you.)

Sorry for the long list, but I just want to be sure that I remember what she says.  There's probably even more words that I'm forgetting.  When she was baby, I figured she'd be a late talker because she'd never get a word in with her talkative older sister, but instead she's learning so much from what Mackenzie says and does.

At 20 months, Meredith...
-is about 34" to 34 1/2" tall and 29.5 pounds (somewhere in the 90th+ percentile)
-carries her loveys around everywhere that she can.  We are slowly starting to leave them at home when we run errands, but it depends on the particular errand.
-loves to "bounce" in the bath tub and splash water around.
-still has only 12 teeth.  Eventually her canines/cuspids with come in! ;)
-wears 24 month to 2T clothing and size 6 shoe.
-recognizes/matches shadow shapes on the ipad games
-sings about 5 letters of the abc song (G, P, S, V, Z) - you know the ones that you pause on while singing! ;)
-loves playing with the toy kitchen and brings "food" for you to eat.
-can finally where small pigtails! yay!

ABC Gross Motor

This summer I downloaded some ABC exercise cards to use for our letter of the week activities.  Back in January, I decided we would make a game using all of the cards, so I had the girls take turns drawing a card and doing the activity.  This is a not so great picture of all of the cards after the girls completed the activity.  We didn't do them in alphabetical order, however my pictures are in alphabetical order.  I don't have pictures of all of the letters either because the picture was just too blurry or in the case of R and S, I didn't even take those pictures.

A is for "Make circles with your ankle".  This one was easy for her, however she did feel the need to lean against a chair for balance.

Speaking of balance...B is for "balance on one foot".
C is for "clap your hands".  Easy Peasy.
D is for "dance".  Her favorite activity of all!
E is for "elevate your arms".  This became a flying butterfly activity.
And Meredith joined in for this one, too!
F is for "Flex your muscles".  This was new to her.  I'm guessing if she was a boy we would have said it to her more, but for this little girly girl, it was her first time to hear this phrase!
G is for "grab the stars".  I'm pretty sure she was jumping while "grabbing" the stars which would explain the blurry photo!
H is for "hop on one foot".  I love when Meredith jumps or hops because her feet never leave the ground!  It is so cute and I'm going to miss these little non hops when she finally learns to jump.
I is for "act like and inchworm".  Mackenzie looks like she's doing an army crawl more than an inchworm, but oh well.
J is for "jumping jacks".  This was another fun activity to watch since neither girl can really do them correctly!
K is for "kick your legs".  I didn't have a good picture of this at all.  :(

L is for "lift your legs".  Both girls liked this one...super easy!
M is for "march in place"
N is for "nod your head".

O is for "jump over a pillow".  Meredith walked over the pillow and Mackenzie did a jete over the pillow.
P is for "push ups".  This was quite funny because again, Mackenzie had never done one before.  I demonstrated one for her, but it was still a little hard for her to figure out. ;)

Q is for "quickly walk in place".  This one doesn't really make since because I'm not sure how you walk in place.  We adjusted it to "walk quickly" across the living room.
R is for "run in place".  I don't have a picture of this one.  Probably because we were indoors and there was no way I could have gotten a non blurry picture of her running.

S is for "sit up".  I demonstrated this for Mackenzie and she had no desire to try it! Ha!

T is for "touch your toes".  Meredith was so happy when she could do this one!

U is for "ride a unicycle".  Mackenzie got the hang of this one quickly and decided she should help Meredith.

V is for "pretend you are a volcano".  Mackenzie loved this one and instantly brought up the fact that it was the same as the ABC yoga exercise we did for the letter V.
W is for "windmills with arms".  I guess now with swimming lessons, we would call them "row row arms".

X is for "pick your exercise", but I don't know what they did! ;)  Sorry, it's been 3 months since we've done this. :(

Y is for "pretend you are using a yoyo".  Meredith liked moving her arms back and forth!
And finally, Z is for "run in a zig zag".  Mackenzie really liked this one too.

We were doing this as part of a gross motor challenge in January that 3Dinosaurs was hosting.  Unfortunately, I wasn't very consistent with the daily challenge, so I didn't blog about it.  But now that I'm trying to catch up with the blogging/scrapbooking, some of these pictures were just too cute to pass up, even if they were taken 3 months ago! ;)

Beautiful Weather

Now that the weather is warmer, we've been playing outside a bit more, either in the backyard or front yard.  The girls got some new BRIGHT clothing, so we had to get a picture of them together.  This was the best I could get! ;)
Meredith didn't want to let go of the water bottle and we had only just gotten outside.
Mackenzie's learning how to swing on her own.  She still wants me to get her started, but after that she does pretty well on her own.
It looks like we have some pretty big "steps" on our playset!  I really don't like for the girls to play in the backyard because our swing set is getting old and I'm afraid they are going to get all kinds of splinters from the slowly rotting wood.  Brandon and I are talking about getting rid of this set and buying a plain swing set.  We have great playgrounds in our neighborhood and city that we can go to if the girls want to climb and slide.
For now though, they enjoy this slide occasionally.
Mackenzie tried to swing on this rope swing and didn't do so well! Ha! ;)
One of my favorite photos of Meredith.  I tried to find a similar one of Mackenzie, but I couldn't find it.  Oh well, I guess they don't always have to be compared in photos! ;)
Meredith decided to sing for me while we were taking a break...
But then, sister said something and distracted her!  That's her "what's that?" face.
One day the weather was a little warm, but we still played out in the front yard while we waited on a friend to stop by.  I actually had to apply sunscreen on the girls because the sun was so bright and I was worried we'd get sunburned.  Meredith likes to push this little waking toy...
However, she wasn't a fan of the wind!
Mackenzie's hair was sticking to her sun-screened face, so we had to pull it up in a quick fix pony tail.  Then she was free to dance and spin around as much as she liked!

I drew Minnie and Micky on the sidewalk and Meredith thought it was fun to stand on them.  Again, notice the water bottle.  When she's hot and thirsty, she won't let go of the water bottle! ;)

We have a portable speaker that plays music from our ipod that we take it outside when we play.  The girls love to dance to the music and this time was no exception!
And finally, my favorite from our time outside and the girls dancing together.  So, cute!

New Night Stands

Back in December, Brandon made 2 night stands for the girls.  We put both of them in Mackenzie's room at the time, until Meredith needed one, but now that they will be sharing a room and have different furniture, I think I'll move them to the guest bedroom.  It's in desperate need for actual nightstands since right now we are using an old printer stand as the night stand.  I took the pictures months ago, but you know the drill...life happened and I never got around to blogging about them.  However, Brandon did such a great job that I wanted to show them off and show you his handy work.

They are 18" square and have tapered legs and a lower shelf.

Even the top has a little chamfer on the edge.  So nice!

The original plan was to modify the plan of this table to make a long side table for our hallway, but I think we are now leaning toward some sort of bench.  Although, I think any wood working is about to be put on hold for the duration of the hot Texas summer.  It's way too hot to work in the garage on any project during the summer.  That's ok, I think we'll be a little busy between now and the end of the year with the new baby.  At least now we have all of the tools we need, when we (Brandon) is ready to build again.
