Lil Aggie

After the game on Saturday, I was determined to find a new shirt for me and other Aggie paraphernalia for the girls.  We went to the bookstore and I did find a shirt that I will be able to wear more comfortably after the remaining baby weight is gone.  As for the girls, we bought a "future aggie" sippee cup for Meredith and a dress for Mackenzie.  In reality, Mackenzie will use both now and then Meredith will use them both later.

Mackenzie wore the dress to bible class on Sunday and when she and Brandon got home I asked her if her teachers liked her dress.  She said yes and that she showed them her panties.  I laughed and asked her what her teachers said when she showed them her panties and she said they laughed.  I'll have to ask her teacher (aka an elder's wife) what she really thought! ;)

Bookshelves

So, I watched the last part of Extreme Home Makeover the other night and loved the bookshelves they did in the mother's room as well as the general open area.  I've always loved the idea of a "library" in our house or at least one wall full of bookshelves filled with books.  Our house has 2 sets of built ins, one in the living room and one in the play room.  The living room shelves are filled with trinkets, vases, pictures and few books.  The playroom is filled with more books, but it also hold all of our games, mackenzie's movies and some toys.  So, despite have the opportunity, I didn't fill these rooms with books like I always imagined I would do.  This winter or spring Brandon is planning to build built-in shelves along the back wall in our office.  I thought I wanted them to look like the ones we already have with cabinets at the bottom but after seeing some pictures on the internet, I'm rethinking our plans.

I love the floor to ceiling look as well as the dark color.

Again, i love the floor to ceiling, but i also like how these are divided vertically unlike the first image.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this design!  It provides a dynamic look to what is such a static object.

This is kind of the look I was originally going for except painted white.

In the end, it doesn't really matter what the final design looks like as long as we can get rid of our 4 mis-matched bookshelves we've collected over the years.  I'd like our office to look like a grown up office, not like some college apartment with 4 different people's furniture coming together.

So what do you think?  What shelves do you like?

Gig'em Aggies

Saturday, Brandon and I went to the A&M/OSU game.  Brandon and I had not been back to A&M for a game since we graduated, so it was a lot of fun even if it was super hot!  Walking around on campus was fun, but Brandon and I definitely felt old with all the students walking around that look so "young".  When I realized they were all 2 to 6 years younger than my brother who is already 7 years younger than me, I felt really old!  A lot has changed when it comes to the games on campus.  For one, I don't remember seeing people drink alcohol on campus.  They still don't allow it at Kyle Field, but there were plenty of people drinking around the stadium and up to the point where it was prohibited.  I also found it odd that so many girls were wearing dresses and skirts.  Don't get me wrong, they were cute dresses and I would have probably worn similar dresses when I was that young and skinny, but I definitely would not have worn them to a football game!  There are way too many stairs/ramps/bleachers for a dress, in my opinion.  That and when I think football games, I think of shorts, t-shirts and ball caps - not dresses and skirts.  Of course having these opinions made me feel old...again.

Anyways, despite feeling old and the really long day (we were gone from 11:30 to 9:00), we had fun!  On the way there, we talked about how it would be cool to have season tickets, but after such a  long long day of driving there, going to the game, waiting on the shuttle, sitting in traffic to get out of town and then driving home, I think we've determined that season tickets aren't for us.  Maybe we'll just try to go to one game a season or possible every other season!  As long as it's not another 9 years before we go to another game! ;)

Although I saw lots of little ones at the game, I can't imagine taking Mackenzie to a game.  It was soooo hot and soooo crowded in the stands.  I know she would have been miserable and in turn would have made us miserable.  I think Mackenzie will have to be much, much older before we take her to a game.  Thankfully, Momma and Granny came to watch the girls all day other wise we would never have been able to go!

What we've been doing

Meredith is almost 4 weeks old and I've hardly posted any pictures of her on the blog since she's been born. I keep saying it, but she is such a second child - you know the one with the fewer pictures, the baby book that isn't filled out and now the blog posts! ;)

So, what have we been doing in the last month?

We've been sleeping.
About every other day I take a nap with the girls depending on how the night before went. We thought this picture was so cute. Meredith managed to get her arm out of being swaddled and then slept with it on her head for a while.

We play dress up. Mackenzie loves her black dress shoes and apparently felt her pajamas that I was saving for this winter were a perfect dress!
We swing...which allows me to get household stuff done. Wednesday I was able to clean out my closet and pack up most of my maternity clothes while Meredith slept in her swing.
We've done some art/crafts.
We've had visitors.

And in general, we just hang out!
Since it's the start of flu season, we'll be hanging out inside the house for the next month, so it's a good thing that we are enjoying ourselves!

Mackenzie's 3rd birthday

Mackenzie turned 3 on Sunday and her big present from us was her new bicycle and helmet.

After church we had a big family lunch and my wonderful mom brought all of the super delicious food, so that I didn't have cook anything! Then Mackenzie got to open her presents which she loved! Can you tell she's excited and loves her huge number 3 balloon?
Of course Uncle Ryan had to mess with her just a little and she's learning to play along. :)

My parents bought her a backpack/overnight bag with wheels and a telescoping handle. She hasn't put anything except a little doll in it, but loves to extend the handle and wheel it around the house.Ryan and Kelsey bought her some fun play-doh stuff that she had to play with instantly.Brandon's mom gave Mackenzie some fun games earlier that morning. I've been waiting for Mackenzie to turn 3 just so we can play games like these.Mackenzie also requested a chocolate cake and I'm pretty sure she liked it!

Following through

I'm slowly adjusting to staying home with 2 kids and I'm trying to keep up with some of the house work, but yesterday I realized I'm having trouble following through...

I did laundry last week but never folded the clothes and then after doing the laundry again yesterday the clothes just piled up. The clothes above are all clean and the sad thing is there was still another load in the dryer, one waiting to be washed and the girls clothes were still in the hampers! Hmmm...do you think we have enough clothes?!

I did finally get most of all that folded and I've been ironing this morning, so I feel like I'm making some progress! Of course the laundry is a vicious cycle, so I'll never be completely done, but oh well!

Update

I'm still here! Just a little busy. ;)

Meredith is a great baby and really only cries when she's hungry and/or needs to burp. Burping is her biggest difficulty, but she/we are getting better and don't require mylacon with every feeding any more. Day by day we are learning her cries and learning the little tricks that help her to eat or burp better. She's a pretty good sleeper and my mom and I finally figured out that she likes to be swaddled and covered with another blanket when she sleeps...she wants to be very, very cozy.

Recovery this time around went much more smoothly and was surprisingly easy. I guess by your second c-section you probably don't have many more nerves in your abdomen that they can sever, so it's not as painful. I haven't taken any medicine for pain in a couple of days and other than sneezing and coughing, I really don't feel any pain.

Earlier in the week I took some newborn pictures of Meredith. I haven't had a chance to edit them and I still want to take some more, but below are a few of my favorites.
