Meredith Danielle

Meredith wasn't as stubborn as I thought she was! She arrived on her due date - August 29th at 7:29pm via c-section weighing in at 8 lbs 6 oz and 20" long.So I have a very quick birthing story...my water broke at 2:00 and unlike the movies, it was not a large gush of fluids. I actually "leaked/trickled" off and on for 2 hours before I decided to call the doctor to see if I should go in. We arrived at the hospital about 5:45 and because my blood pressure was fairly high, the on-call doctor did not feel comfortable with me trying a VBAC, so I was headed to the operating room at 7:00 for my c-section and she was born at 7:29.

While I didn't actually birth her in less than 6 hours, it was still less than 6 hours total from the time I thought maybe my water had broken and they were pulling her from me. For Brandon it was less than 4 hours from me telling him to come home and the doctors showing us our new daughter! Needless to say it was a bit overwhelming, for me at least, for it to happen so quickly.

Meredith is adorable of course! I don't think she and Mackenzie look alike now, but maybe as Meredith gets older.
As you can see, Meredith has a cute heart shaped "stork kiss" on her forehead. Her pediatrician says it will go away in about 6 to 9 months, but it may still appear sometimes when she gets really mad or upset and cries. This made me laugh because all I could think of was Harry Potter and his scar! ;)

Everything is going well and we go home tomorrow morning. Mackenzie finally got to hold her today and I think she was pretty excited until Meredith started crying. I'm ready to get home so that she can have a little more interaction with her.

Thanks for all of your prayers, emails and phone calls. It wasn't exactly the birth we had planned, but now that she's here, it doesn't matter. I'll post more pictures as I take them! ;)

First Birthday

My niece and nephew celebrated their first birthday a couple of weekends ago. The cakes were really good and unlike Mackenzie on her first birthday, Nina and Noah thoroughly enjoyed their cake!

And this time, Mackenzie did too!

The little kids like the toys...

And the big kids liked the rough housing!

My nephew James just can't get enough of Uncle Ryan...despite being hog tied a couple of times, he still came back for more!

It was a great birthday party and now Mackenzie is really looking forward to hers!

Watering plants...something we should try

Last weekend we went to my parents' house and since we stayed over night on Friday, Mackenzie was able to help my dad water the plants in the backyard on Saturday morning. At almost 3, this was new to her since we don't own any plants that aren't planted in the yard and watered by the sprinklers.

My dad let her hold the hose and spray the plants all by herself!

Sometimes she watered the plants, sometimes she watered the patio. Even my dad got a little watering!

It looks like I might need to buy a plant or two that we can water this fall/spring. Now that I'll be home all day, every day, maybe I can keep the plants alive better than I've done when I was working.

Better the second time around

While preparing for Meredith's arrival, we found Mackenzie's first Halloween costume. She hated it when she was 6 weeks old!

But at almost 3, she loves it...
...even if it is a little too small! ;)

2 weeks max!

I had another doctors appointment today and it would seem that Meredith is going to be as stubborn as her momma, daddy and sister! ;) Two weeks from today I will have a c-section unless she arrives before then. I'm glad to have a final date, but I hope she comes long before that because one, I want to meet her and two, I'm so T.I.R.E.D. of being pregnant! Tomorrow is my last day at work, so I'm hoping that the stress relief of not working will allow Meredith to relax and come on out on her own. Here's hoping!

My plans for this weekend are to clean house and prepare even more for Meredith. I'd say these are very nice indoor plans considering the high is some outrageous temperature like 105 or something to that effect. I will gladly stay in our house with our newly replaced a/c unit. Plus, I don't have to be really rush to finish all of my house chores since I don't have to go back to work on Monday! Woo Hoo! I'm going to let Mackenzie stay home with me on Monday, so we can have a mother/daughter day before our world is rocked with a second child. I think we'll have a pajama day!

So, I know everyone has been doing rain dances for the last 6 months and now that we got rain yesterday and today, could everyone now concentrate on labor dances to move Meredith along? ;)

Pregnancy Comparison Photos

So, I tried to take pictures once a month during this pregnancy, but I wasn't very successful. I managed to get 12 weeks, 16 weeks, 24 weeks, 34 weeks and 38 weeks. I tried to do a photo comparison with my last pregnancy, but after 16 weeks I didn't take any pictures at the same stage of pregnancy, so below are my best comparisons.

I think I'm a little bigger in general with this second pregnancy, but I think I gained more weight in my face during the first pregnancy and not so much with this one - maybe. ;)

Shoe shopping and Mini Photo shoot

Since summer is coming to a close, Mackenzie needed new dress shoes for the fall/winter. We went to the mall and she got new tennis shoes, black patent leather shoes and brown dress shoes. She LOVES shoes, so this was pretty exciting for her. She had to wear the tennis shoes out of the store, as usual. Sunday she wore one of her new dresses with her new shoes. Luckily, she didn't get any food or drink on her dress at lunch, so we had a mini photo-shoot when we got home.

Like with the Halloween pictures, I wished I had turned the camera on Brandon since he was telling her how to pose! He's such a great girls' dad!

Hint, Hint.

I have a pair of flats that I bough when I was pregnant with Mackenzie that I wore almost the entire pregnancy, along with another pair of shoes. After Mackenzie was born, I threw out the other pair of shoes because they were completely worn out. The flats I kept, but I didn't really wear them again until this pregnancy - mainly because I prefer heels. Anyways, I had already made up my mind that the flats needed to be thrown out after Meredith is born and I'm not longer working, but for now, I'm still wearing them to work abut 2 times a week. On Sunday I asked if Mackenzie would take my shoes back to my closet (we start manual labor early) and this is the conversation that took place:

Me: Will you take my shoes to my closet
Mackenzie: Yes. (picks them up) Momma, they are kind of yucky.
Me: Oh really? Do they stink?
Mackenzie: Yes, they smell like poop. (walking off to my closet)

You can always count on kids to tell you their honest opinion! I guess I might need to throw my shoes away now! ;)

Almost 3...going on 13!?

This is how I found Mackenzie this morning after we got back from the grocery store. I guess you just naturally learn to relax while talking on the phone, because I don't think I've ever just laid on the floor and talked on the phone in front of her. The last picture she asked me to take and specifically posed like that.

New Dresses

I can always count on my mom to update Mackenzie's closet with the cutest dresses! She recently received 4 new ones. All of the pictures don't look like she's too happy, but that's because when I take pictures now, she doesn't actually smile, she just says, "cheese" which doesn't always produce a smile! But trust me, if she wasn't excited about these dresses, she would not have tried them on and posed for a picture in every single one!

Every girl needs a cute leopard print!
One of my favorites! Check out the matching purse.
Another cutie, but unfortunately the tag was a little distracting to her.
And the last dress is a cute dress that looks kind of like the water camouflage, but I don't think it is. This picture makes me laugh because clearly I took the picture just in time before she jumped off the fireplace ledge. She looks like she's doing some sort of dance move.
All we need now is some new shoes!

Crocheted treasures

My Aunt made some beautiful crocheted treasures for baby Meredith!

First is a hat and diaper cover that I'm going to use for Meredith's newborn photos. I'm doing her photos this time, so all I have left to buy is a soft furry blanket for her to lay on.
The back side of the diaper cover has cute little ruffles.
A very cute little sweater with pearl buttons. I can't wait for it to be cold outside so she can where this.Since we are collecting owls for Meredith, the next two items are perfect! I don't know how I'll ever be able to put this bib on Meredith and not feel like I'm about to ruin it! ;)And last but not least, a cute little purse or small diaper bag. So cute!
These pictures don't really do the items justice, as they are even more adorable in person. I absolutely love them and cannot wait to use them! Thanks Rhonda!

New Career

You know how there are certain things you say you will never do, when it comes to raising children? You know the ones I'm talking about, "I will never let my child sleep in my bed." "I will never give my child anything but milk, juice and water." "I will never..." I like to think I never said any of the previous statements, since I knew I would most likely "never" follow through.

I did however have one phrase that I know I said A LOT before and even after Mackenzie was born, "I didn't go to school for 7 years and take exams for 18 months just to be a stay at home mom." With that said, I truly believed it until I didn't. Does that make since? I always believed I would work through kids going to elementary school and MAYBE stop working while they were in junior high and high school. Brandon thought so too. Why would we give up that second salary if we didn't have to? That was how I felt until about 18 months ago. Then something clicked and Brandon and I just said to each other, we can get through us both working with one child, but what happens when we have two? How do you manage time off for 2 sick children when one child wipes out most of your vacation time each year. We made up our mind about that time to start looking at the budget for one salary and once I had another child, I would stay home.

Over the last 9 months, I've had mixed emotions. One one hand, I've been super excited about staying home. I have this sugar coated view right now of play dates and home pre-school and constant fun. On the other hand, I LOVE what I do and my job is great and I'm moving up in the company. On one hand, I'm nervous about taking care of my children 24/7 without constant adult conversation during the day. On the other hand, I worry about my children being in school for 11 hours a day and the conversation/juggling schedules of who will take off from work when one of them gets sick. Unfortunately, my job/career isn't really made for part time work, especially if you are managing a project, so the choices were all or nothing. After a lot of "what if" situations I had planned to ask my boss in order to continue working, I finally told my office that I wasn't returning after maternity leave. And you know what...they were super cool about all of it! I should have known they would be, seeing as how I just said I love my job and my office! They said I had an open door to come back whenever I wanted to too, 1 year, 5 years, whenever. That's super sweet and I'm so thankful for not being given a single drop of guilt for leaving.

So, unless Meredith comes early, I have 3 more weeks of a career I love and then I embark on a new career, that I know I will LOVE even more!

So far, so good

We had an ultrasound today to check on Meredith. Currently she is head down and I'm pretty sure she'll stay that way, since she's been in the same position for the last month at least. The doctor also said she was measuring well and all the organs looked good. I haven't started to show any signs of labor yet, but since I'm only 36 1/2 weeks, that is perfectly ok.

My bag is packed by the door just in case and everyday at work, I try to complete whatever I'm working on before I leave, just in case. I also have a word file at work that lists all the things I'm working on and where all the files are since I'm the only one on the project other than my boss.

We told the doctor we are going to do a VBAC and she said ok. I did find out today that the 4 doctors in the office take turns being on call, so if I were to go to the hospital at night, I might not necessarily get to see my doctor. That's not a big deal except for the fact that she informed me that 1 of the 4 doctors doesn't let you trial labor if you've had a previous c-section, so she would most likely perform a c-section if it is her night. I think as long as I can get to the hospital during the day, then my doctor will let me labor and it's only that 25% chance that I get that doctor at night. So, here's hoping Meredith stays put during the night! ;) She also told me to labor as much as possible at the house before coming to the hospital because if I come to the hospital too early and don't dilate fast enough, then I would probably get a c-section, but if I come to the hospital well enough along, then I'm more than likely able to continue on.

Anyways, everything seems to be in place. I have a baby shower this weekend, so that will be fun and I'll get to put away that stuff later and feel even more prepared. I feel like I say this a lot, but for now...we wait!
