Jumping Rope

Mackenzie and I really like the Childrens' Museum. Saturday we met Jennifer and Karleigh there for a little play date and had a blast.

The best part was after lunch when we went outside to play. They had hula hoops and jump ropes laying on the ground for the kids to play with. Mackenzie tried to do the hula hoop which was hilarious.

And then tried the jump ropes. Jennifer was smarter than me and pulled out her phone to get video of Mackenzie jumping rope. Not bad for 2 1/2 years old!

Livestock Show

While the Rodeo was in town, Brandon and I took a day off of work to take Mackenzie to the Livestock show. I wasn't sure how it was going to go, since she loves animals in books and movies but is scared of them in real life (cats and dogs too).

It turns out I had nothing to worry about...almost. She did great with almost all of the animals.

She liked the bunnies.

She liked the baby chicks.

She liked the sheep, especially the baby.

She even liked this big guy.

But what she wanted to do the most was ride the ponies! She did not want to do anything else until she road a pony. We asked her several times if she was sure she wanted to do that. yes. Was she sure she wanted to do what the other kids were doing? yes. really?? yes. So we paid our money and stood in line for 15 minutes.

Finally Brandon took her to her pony, while I stood by with the camera.

He put her on her pony.

And then immediately took her off!

We got our money back and left to go eat lunch! ;) Maybe next year will be better!

Mackenzie has never really cared for others to hold her. For the most part, it used to be only those that she sees on a daily basis. In the last 6 months she's gotten better with almost everyone in our family except my dad! I think it's because of his beard and mustache. Despite never wanting to hug or kiss him unless he has food, she talks about him A LOT when he's not around. Lately, if I'm on the phone with someone, she pretends to talk to someone on her phone (play phone, sunglasses, or just her hand). Usually when I ask who she's talking to, she says "Gapa" (my dad). The other day I asked her if Gapa was asking for a kiss and a hug. She responded by saying, "I say no Gapa". She says she won't kiss him because he's "prickady", aka prickly.

A couple of weeks ago when I woke Mackenzie up one morning, she got out of bed and went to her dolls and stuffed animals and said, "Gapa says stop girl." She was pointing to one of her dolls and said the same phrase several times before I realized what she was saying. Finally, I caught on...she was recalling when my dad was playing with her and her dolls back in December. Every time he had this one doll (the one she pointed to) he said, "You go girl." Apparently, Mackenzie couldn't quite remember what he said and replaced "go girl" with "stop girl"! It made me laugh out loud. So funny and I'm sure there will be many more funny phrases to come!

Brandon had my car detailed yesterday and can I just say...wow! It hasn't been this clean since we bought it almost 6 years ago!

Before I had Mackenzie, I was one of those people who said I would never let my car be taken over by my kids. I told myself, they wouldn't eat or drink in the back seat...I wouldn't let things pile up in the floor...you know just general messyness. My car would be clean all the time!

2 1/2 years later - whatever! Mackenzie drinks back there all the time...sippy cups of every kind of juice and mainly capri suns which as you know are not spill proof. She also eats her snacks...raisins, pretzels, gold fish crackers, french fries, muffins...basically if she's hungry and I have food I pass it back to her. Remnants of all these snacks can be found in every crevice and crack of my car and her car seat. Basically, all of my rules flew out the window when she came along!

To be fair, it's not all her. I constantly leave water bottles, my work boots, my own food wrappers, capri suns and general trash around. I've become quite lazy in cleaning out my car in the last couple of years.

With that said, as of today I'm making it my goal to keep my car clean as long as possible. I know it won't look as nice as it does today, all shiny and smelling new, but hopefully I can keep the trash out! Only time will tell!

Now if only I could do the same thing with my purse! ;)

Mackenzie likes to compare things to see how they are related. It's her way of understanding what something is. These are her recent comparisons.

Z like 2?

waffle like tortilla?
(because it's round)

dragon like bat?
(because of the wings)

whale like Jonah and fish?

S like 5?

shorts like pants?

bible like book?

She always asks them as questions and waits for you to answer yes or no or give some further information. I think it's really cute and I hope she continues to ask the questions and looks for ways to understand new things.
