Go Texan Day

Today is Go Texan Day. We are supposed to wear our "best western wear" to work.

This is as Go Texan/Western as I get!

College Art

The other day I found some sketches I had done for an art class my freshman year at A&M. I had forgotten all about them. I use the computer so much at work, I had forgotten that I can actually draw by hand!

Can you tell I was drawing the things in my dorm room?! I wonder what the professor thought? ;)

I know sometime in the near future Brandon and I will be buying lots of Barbies for Mackenzie. My sisters and I played with barbies all the time when we were young. Once when my brother was a toddler he actually stepped into and sat in the bus/van/RV thing we had for our barbies. I'm pretty sure he probably broke something and us girls didn't really appreciate that at age 9! ;)

I received an email today about a Barbie that will debut this fall and I MUST buy it!

Meet Barbie Architect!

What do you think - does it look like me?
Where's her all black clothing?
Where's her computer?
I don't think it's appropriate to where a dress on the jobsite!

Even though it's not quite the Architect I would imagine and doesn't look like any Architects I know, I still need to buy it.

The question is, do I say it's for me or Mackenzie?! ;)

When I was younger I specifically remember giving my mom a hard time about always wearing black and white. All her work clothes were always black, grey or white. They hardly ever had any color.

Today in the car Mackenzie said, "I like purple". When I responded with, "i like purple too", she said, "no, you like black". I looked at my dress and it's black and white. Yesterday's outfit was black and white too. Even in maternity clothes, I still cling to my black and white staples!

I will no longer give my mom a hard time! ;)

PS - She also said, "daddy like blue". I think she's right with that statement as well - Brandon does have A LOT of blue shirts! ;)

First Belly Shot

So here is my first belly shot from last week at 12 1/2 weeks! I've been wearing maternity clothes for 3 weeks now - that's crazy! I also had my genetic screening done last week and fortunately, it included an ultrasound, so below are pictures of baby #2!

Mackenzie saw my camera sitting on the table and said, "Momma I smile". I jumped at the chance to take her picture when she wanted me to.

It looks like my idea of smile at the camera isn't quite what she thinks it is! ;)

Valentine's stickers

Mackenzie really enjoyed her Valentine's day stickers. I'm pretty sure the book of 48 stickers was used in about 5 minutes.

Brandon also got to wear stickers on his shirt all day. I got the privilege of removing all of the stickers from Mackenzie's pajamas before doing laundry. Yippee!!!

Valentine's Day

For Valentines Day, Brandon sent flowers to my office. Unfortunately, the flower shop didn't pay attention to typical office hours and tried to deliver the flowers after 5:00 when our office was closed. They redelivered them on Tuesday, but that was my day to stay at home with Mackenzie. So, Wednesday morning when I got to the office, I picked up my flowers at the front desk and took them back to my desk.

About an hour later I had to leave for a meeting and didn't return to the office until after lunch. As I was heading to my desk, I noticed my flowers sitting on the counter in the kitchen. huh?

We have an open office plan, so I asked my coworkers what happened to my flowers and they said one of the partners of our firm saw my flowers and since I wasn't at my desk took my flowers to the kitchen, "for the entire office to enjoy." huh?

I guess he thought I was still out of the office and wouldn't be back for a day or 2, so I wouldn't mind. In my best pathetic voice, I asked if my coworker could go get my flowers for me because I didn't want to walk past the partner's desk with my flowers. He did and now they've been sitting on my desk all week for ONLY me to enjoy!

I told Brandon the next time he sends flowers, he'll have to send a second arrangement to the office - apparently that's office protocol! ;)

Sure, I'll sit in time out.

Today I discovered that Mackenzie doesn't mind sitting in time out. doesn't bother her one bit!

Her virus finally moved to strep throat and now she has medicine that will heal her! Yippee! (i'm not happy she's sick - I'm just happy there's medicine that will make the illness go away!) The problem is she's so sick of taking medicine since she's been taking it several times a day for the last 5 days.

I spent a good 5 minutes trying to hold her down and give her antibiotics and finally sent her to time out until she took her medicine. She went to time out with no problem and didn't even care when I turned off the TV. She cried for a little while, but I think that was just left over from fighting me and the medicine. After a couple of minutes I tried it again, with no such luck, so she went back to time out.

After about 5 minutes in time out with not a word from her, I called Brandon to see what he had to do yesterday when he was home with her by herself. He said it was a huge fight with her every time she needed medicine. He also informed me that the time out doesn't do anything to her, but she hates being sent to her room by herself.

Ah hah! I hung up the phone and gave Mackenzie the ultimatum - her room or the medicine. She said she didn't want the medicine so I picked her up and said she was going to her room. She cried even more at that and so I asked if she wanted to take her medicine - and finally she said yes. We stood in the hallway while she took her medicine in all of about 20 seconds.

It looks like "go to your room" will be my new punishment phrase. With medicine twice a day for the next 10 days, it looks like I'll get to say that another 19 times! ;)

Joys of Parenting

I love being a parent.

I love being a parent, but I do not like it when Mackenzie is sick! I've said this before, Mackenzie is predictable in her illnesses. Like clockwork she pretty much gets sick about every 3 or 4 months. She was sick just before Christmas (just like last year) and before that is was the end of August (just like the year before). With that said, I wasn't expecting her to be sick until at least March! ;) She decided to switch it up this time! ;)

Thursday I picked her up from school and she was really cranky the entire way home. When we got home I checked her temperature and it was 100.4. I gave her some Tylenol and hoped she would be better by morning. Friday, I stayed home with her because technically she's not supposed to go to school within 24 hours of a fever. She still had the 100 degree fever at 8:30 that morning, so I gave her more Tylenol. By 1:00pm, the fever spiked to 104.1, so she got more medicine and we went to the Doctor that afternoon. Ear infection, the flu and strep throat were all ruled out. I hate that! It's not that I wish Mackenzie to have the flu or strep, but at least with known illnesses, you can get a specific medicine that makes you better. Instead, our prognosis is to keep the fever down and wait for it to go away on it's own. That's what I hate - the waiting game...the constant medicine...the constant temperature taking..."will you drink something for momma and daddy?"..."will you eat something for momma and daddy?"...

I love being a parent.

My reward has been Mackenzie still saying Thank you and I love you even when she doesn't feel good.

The other night I slept with her in the guest bedroom so that I could give her her medicine through out the night. At one point she sneezed and I whispered, "bless you". She whispered back, "thank you momma". It made me smile.

I love being a parent.

Reply All

As I'm sure most of you know, sometimes its important to use the "reply all" button when responding to an email. There are time, at work for instance, when you want everyone on the team to see what you are saying so that everyone is aware of the full story. Other times, one only needs to hit the "reply" button to respond to the sender only.

You have to be careful of "reply all", though. It can cause problems if you aren't careful.

I can think of one time when I hit "reply all" to an email a contractor wrote, feeling completely sure of myself that he had made a mistake in his previous email. Much to my dismay, he was right and so I felt stupid that I had replied to everyone just like he did when he inturn corrected me! In the end, this wasn't that big of a deal. I'm probably the only one that remembers it, really.

A team member on my project however was not so lucky today. Yesterday an email was sent using the "reply all" feature, accidentally listing her to do list (both personal and business). She later wrote an email saying to disregard the previous email, but the damage was done - everyone had already seen it. I really feel for her. No one wants everyone to see everything that you write down to remember. There are somethings that are probably meant for your eyes only.

Anyways, I hope it never happens to me and this should be a lesson to all: Be careful when using "reply all".

Oh and don't keep your personal and business to do list all in one on your PDA - or at least don't write everything little thing down!

Superbowl fun

While Brandon and I were watching the Superbowl this evening, Mackenzie decided she wanted to jump. Who says you have to jump at the count of 3?! Mackenzie likes to jump at 11! ;)

Blurb books

In an effort to complete some unfinished tasks before I have 2 children and don't have a lot of spare time, I've been focusing on my blurb books. I have 2 unfinished books - "My first Pregnancy" and "My Blog - 2007/2008". I haven't touched my pregnancy book since about a week before Mackenzie was born. I just need to add a few pictures, the final birth picture, time and weight and then I'll be done.

The blog book is another story. When I pulled in all of the posts the book was 140 pages. I've double up some of the posts and I'm slowly adding all of the comments. I'm down to about 120 pages and I've officially edited 70 of them. I only have a little ways to go and then I'll look at it one last time before sending it to the printer.

I guess after those 2 books, I'll start on this pregnancy book and the 2009, 2010 blog books. I can't imagine how big my 2010 book will be with 189 posts, when my 2008 book has 120 pages and only 97 posts!

For those who have made books of their blogs...any recommendations for format or anything else?

This pregnancy...

Yesterday we got to hear the baby's heartbeat for the first time, so that was awesome and very reassuring that all is well. I'm due at the end of August but will most likely have another c-section, so it will probably be 8-10 days before that. I'm thinking it will be more like August 20. Everyone keeps saying, "'ll be pregnant in August." Yes, this is true, but I survived an August pregnancy last time with Mackenzie, so I think I'll be fine. (You might have to remind me of this post once July and August comes around! ;))

I'm about 10 1/2 weeks pregnant and I'm already seeing a couple of differences in this pregnancy and when I was pregnant with Mackenzie.

I had always heard that after your first pregnancy, your body quickly remembers what to do and you "pop" sooner. With Mackenzie I was buttoning my regular pants all the way to 12 weeks. This time I had to wear a belly band at 8 weeks. I gave up on the belly band this week and broke out the maternity pants! (Thanks to Erin, I have double the selection of maternity clothes this time around!)

The other difference that I'm super excited about is that I'm not really as tired as I was with Mackenzie. When I was pregnant with Mackenzie, I was borderline anemic and had to take iron pills in addition to the pre-natals, so I was extremely tired for the first 2 months.

I think I can settle for getting bigger earlier if I don't have to be tired all the time!

Other than the nausea, I'm doing great, but can't wait to get past this cruddy first trimester!
