From Mackenzie

Mackenzie wanted to let everyone know that she's super excited to be a big sister at the end of August!

Brandon and I are too!!!!

Conversation with a 2 year old

Mackenzie: I make punny pace.
Charlton: Oh yeah? a funny face?
M: see? (sticks fingers in her mouth and smiles)
C: wow - that is a funny face

M: I eat cupcake
C: you are eating a cupcake?
M: yes (makes chomping sound like she's eating something out of her hand)

M: I make baby diamond
C: how do you do that?
M: this (puts her pointer fingers and thumbs together to create a little diamond shape)

This was all said while sitting at stop light in the span of about 3 or 4 minutes. So this is how her brain goes from one thought to the next! Good to know! ;)

Burritos and 2-percenters

As an Aggie, I was introduced to Freebirds my freshman year at A&M. Because I'm a picky eater, I always got rice, chicken and cheese only - very plain, I know. When we moved to Houston 4 years later, we found the nearby Freebirds and went about once a month. Once we moved to our house on 290 we frequented Freebirds less often, but it was always a treat to go and eat a "bird" or burrito.

In Grad school, classmates would invite me to eat at Chipotle and I always refused. I refused because...don't laugh...I was afraid I might like it better than Freebirds and I didn't want to be a "2-percenter". For non Aggies, a 2-percenter is an Aggie that doesn't do all of the Aggie traditions - basically not a "true Aggie". ;)

Finally, I broke down one day at work and went to Chipotle. It turns out I should have listened to myself! I really really really like Chipotle and don't really want to eat at Freebirds. I have Chipotle about once every 2 weeks and now they make sweet tea, so it's even better!

In short, I'm a 2-percenter...and I'm OK with that. ;)

F says "ffffff"

Mackenzie has difficulty making the "f" sound. Actually she doesn't have difficulty making the sound itself, she just doesn't say it at all. Instead she says words like:

poot (foot)
pish (fish)
pinch pies (french fries)
tipany (Tiffany)
parmer (farmer)
chinished (finished)

"Chinished" is by far my favorite word she says. I've tried getting her to say the "f" sound and she'll repeat the sound just fine, but as soon as we use it in a word, the "f" disappears. In the case of the word "finished", she said, "ffff-chinished".

I need to think of something funny for her to say that will make her want to repeat the "f" sound. Any ideas???

New Scarf

For Christmas Mackenzie received a hand made scarf from Rhonda.
The ends are gloves made to look like little animals.

Mackenzie loves it and has been wearing it to school on the really cold mornings. At least I don't have to worry about another parent getting it confused with their child's clothing. I'm pretty sure none of the other children in her school have one like it! Thanks Rhonda!

Reading and Relaxin'

I love walking into Mackenzie's playroom and finding her reading her books! It always makes me smile! I remember being nervous when Mackenzie was a year old and I wasn't reading to her on a regular basis. I kept thinking that she wasn't going to like books or that I was hindering her learning some how. The truth was she didn't have the attention span to sit in my lap for even a few pages of a book let alone an entire book! Now our bedtime routine include reading 3 or 4 books every night and she loves to just sit in her room and "read" her books.

I learned with these pictures to be sneaky when taking my pictures and to not let on that I'm going to take a picture until I've already taken at least one. The day before I had found her reading her bible on the couch and I said, "let me get my camera". As soon as I said that, she said, " no momma" and got off the couch. It's a shame because it would have been such a good picture! Oh well, lesson you can tell from the picture above. Although I think it also had something to do with her being in a better mood, since she also smiled for me! ;)

Surprise Party!

A couple of weeks ago my family and I had a surprise party for my Granny's 70th birthday. I thought maybe I shouldn't mention her age, but since the pictures below will clearly give it away, maybe it's ok. ;)

While the party itself was a surprise, the REAL SURPRISE was flying in my aunt Rhonda and cousin Chloe for the party. They live in Utah and hadn't been down for a visit since last spring. My mom picked up Rhonda and Chloe at the airport on Friday night and then the 3 of them came to my house for a "slumber party"! Well, we did stay up until midnight cooking and visiting, but then we went to sleep - not much of a true "slumber party". It was really fun for the 5 of us girls to go to dinner and then prepare the food for the party. We had a really great time.

We went over several scenarios of how we should surprise Granny with Rhonda and Chloe...hide in a room and call her, then come out...answer the door and surprise her that way...have Chloe just sit there and act normal until Granny notices... The list went on and on. In the end, Granny and Papa arrived early and we had to just wing it! I answered the door and brought her back to the living room. My brother and his wife were standing there to greet her and then Chloe was right behind them and just walked up to Granny and hugged her! Then Rhonda came from the other hallway. SURPRISE!

We decided to go with a pink and black theme.
Rhonda and I had a great time decorating the cupcakes. We had pink and black sprinkles and I had a tube of black icing from Mackenzie's Elmo/Oscar cupcakes. It was fun to be creative and decorate them however we wanted. My mom had everyone take a lighted cupcake while we were singing Happy Birthday and then when we were finished we all blew out the candle for Granny.

This is Granny's cupcake just for her.
Mackenzie of course had to help open the first present, but then got a little wrapped up with playing with the tissue paper and didn't really help with the rest.Everyone had a great time playing and talking in the backyard and it was great weather for it!
Happy Birthday Granny!!!!

decorating help...please????

I've always wanted built ins in my house so that I could display all of my "stuff". I finally got built-ins in our new house and I find myself unsure about how I should display/organize everything. So here is what's currently on display:

What do you think? Does it look to cluttered? Does it look too bland? I got a few new pieces at Christmas that I think helped brighten it up and it from all looking the same. I'm trying to figure out how to make my crystal pop. Since it's clear, it just blends right in with the white wall. Should I try to add a background to some of the sections? Would you do just one item on each shelf? I'd love some ideas on how to make it better! Help me!!!

Meyers' Christmas

And last, but not least...the final Christmas celebration of 2010! Since last year Christmas was at our house, this year we traveled to Dallas to have Christmas at Brandon's youngest brother's house. We had a great time and almost all of my pictures are from the brunch we had with our good family friends the Harville's.

This is Brandon's brother and our friend Lacy's cute baby, Crosby. He was so cute and such a chunk - in a good way! ;)
Mackenzie and Crosby's older brother Lincoln played together since they are only about a year apart. Lincoln liked Mackenzie's magnetic doll set.

And Mackenzie liked Lincoln's football set.
In the end, they compromised and had a tea party with Buzz Lightyear!
Since I didn't really take too many pictures of the actual Christmas and opening presents, I leave you with Mackenzie's newest "ballerina" outfit. She says ballerina because it's similar to her ballerina costume but also because we don't really use the word Princess for her. I would prefer her to have dreams of becoming a ballerina rather than dreams of becoming a Princess, but that's just me.
Anyways...Merry Christmas! I'd say I won't post about Christmas until December, but if it's anything like this past year, you won't see a Christmas recap until 2012! ;)

Brandon's Handiwork

Brandon took a week of vacation between Christmas and New Year. In this time, he was very productive and built out our entertainment center nook. I don't have any before pictures, but I do have this wonderful "after" picture!

Our TV clearly doesn't fit in the opening that the home builder built for the TV. We've had our TV sitting on our entertainment center in front of the nook since we moved in and there were visible holes in the walls where the previous owner's surround sound speakers were mounted.

Brandon added the 3 shelves and mounted the TV to a shelf as well. It's so nice not to have the entertainment center sitting in front of a large unused nook! We also added the ottoman below to provide an extra seat around the living room when needed.

I'm very very very thankful Brandon is so handy!

Christmas Day 2010

Yep...It's still Christmas in my bloggy world! On Christmas Day we went to my Grandparents' house to celebrate Christmas with my mom's family. Like the Christmas we had at my parents' house, we had 14 people, but this time all but 2 were adults. Unfortunately, my Aunt and her family couldn't be there so it seemed like a much smaller crowd, but we still had a lot of fun. We had a wonderful meal with way too much food, including a ham AND a turkey. All sorts of sides and plenty of dessert! I LOVE Christmas Dinner (lunch)!
Mackenzie received 2 aprons and she HAD to wear both of them the whole time we were there!
She also enjoyed playing with Katelynn, unlike last year!

We absolutely loved all of our gifts...and still do! ;) From clothes to jewelry, candy to gift cards, music boxes to CD's and so much more...we love it all! We are so blessed to be able to give and receive Christmas presents and really enjoy our time with our family. I hope everyone had as much fun as we did!

3 down...1 to go! Next stop...Dallas!

Mackenzie was "strollin" her new baby around the house the other day and I had to take a picture. Please note that the sunglasses are white plastic skeleton bones with purple lenses. I think we got them in a kids meal sometime before halloween!

Christmas at home

Our first Christmas in our new home was great! Santa came a day early so that we wouldn't be rushed on Christmas day when we had to leave for my grandparents' house and drive to Dallas afterward.

Santa brought Mackenzie a play kitchen, which she loves!
She has sooooo much playfood already, it's unbelievable! The microwave and stove even make noises when you push the buttons, so it sounds like you really are cooking.

She loved her stocking, although I'll admit, I might have eaten her candy and only shared a little with her! ;) That's my job, right?!

We had to take a break from opening presents so she could read her new books. I love that! Although that might not be so good when she gets older and is reading chapter books! ;)One of the other hits of Christmas is her Magnadoodle. We even took this to Dallas. She likes for me and Brandon to draw on it, so she can erase it. She's very demanding when she points to the toy and says what she wants you to draw: "mickey mouse", "minnie mouse", "flower", "pig", "dog"...
Sorry there aren't any pictures of me and Brandon opening gifts. There were a couple of me, but they weren't very flattering. I think next year I need to consider my pajamas and what my hair looks like before we have Christmas! ;)

The first of 4 Christmases!

Since we are playing catch up...let's go back to the weekend before Christmas when we celebrated Christmas at my parents' house with my brother and stepsisters. There are 14 of us now when we gather and 5 of them are kids! Although, Shea turns 14 on Friday, so not quite as little as the rest of the grandchildren! Anyways, we got together, had a wonderful meal and exchanged gifts.

Meet "Nelly", as in "Whoa Nelly" - our newest member of our family. This is one of the stick ponies that kept Mackenzie occupied at the tractor supply store a couple of months ago. My parents' remembered the story and bought her her own horse!
Meet Noah, one of the 2 newest members of our family.
Since my parents now have 2 little granddaughters, they both received matching outfits which means we had to have a mini photo shoot! Meet Nina, the other of the 2 newest members to our family. Mackenzie was so good to sit there with her arm behind Nina. We even have a picture of her kissing Nina. Awwww.
Mackenzie has been consistently the first at the table for desserts in the recent past. This time was no exception.
The two older grandchildren left just after dessert to go skiing, so the next 2 pictures only include 3 of the 5 grandchildren, but they sure are cute! Maybe next year we'll get all of the kids to look at the camera when we take a picture!

No Pouting

It's January 12th and I have not blogged a single day in the new year! It's time to play catch up! I've uploaded all my pictures, but since I haven't even blogged about Christmas, it might take a while! In the mean time...No Pouting!
