My first cheesecake

Sunday I cooked my first cheesecake. Sunday I also threw my first cheesecake down the garbage disposal!

It turns out that I didn't cook it long enough and didn't think to check it before I pulled it out of the oven, let it cool and put it in the fridge. Mandy, if you are reading this...1 hour is not long enough! ;)

While the cheesecake was a bummer, my other 3 pies turned out just fine, so I know the problem isn't all me! ;). Does anyone have any good pointers for making cheesecake?

Elfa and Friends

Every time Mackenzie shows my mom one of her dolls or animals, my mom asks her what their name is. And every time, my answer is, "Oh...we haven't named them." Then a couple of weeks ago, my Papa also asked Mackenzie for the name of one of her dolls. Apparently, Mackenzie and I need to start naming her dolls and animals. Does everyone do that?

On Thanksgiving Day Mackenzie received this doll from Granny (my grandmother).
My mom named her Elfa and everyone agreed this was a good name, including Mackenzie. My dad actually asked Mackenzie if the dolls name was Elmo and Mackenzie said, "No Elmo. Elfa."

While decorating for Christmas we found more Christmas dolls/stuffed animals. It was funny to hear what Mackenzie thought the animals were.

This was a bear:
This was a goat:
And this was a monkey:
The picture doesn't really show it too well, but this is a moose with long lanky arms and legs.

I guess we should probably work on Christmas/winter animals! Oh and I should probably have all of these named before my mom comes to visit in two weeks! ;)

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree...

We bought our Christmas tree the weekend before Thanksgiving and Brandon put it up that same day, but we (I) decorated it on Friday. I wish we had a good place to put the tree in the living room, but we don't so it will reside in the office.

We have a bigger tree than we've ever had before and without buying any new ornaments I still managed to fill it up! I was hesitant about buying a tree with colored lights, but I really like it with all of our ornaments! I still need a tree topper, but maybe I'll find one soon.

Hopefully, I'll get a picture of Mackenzie in front of the tree when she's dressed more "Christmas like" and also when there are actual presents under the tree.

I'm so excited that Christmas is in 28 days! I'm not ready for it, but still sooo excited! ;)

Burried in Books

While I sometimes feel I'm buried in books that I want to read, Mackenzie was literally buried in her own books.

The bottom two rows of her bookshelf were completely empty and I think she had "read" most of them. This was last Thursday and I apparently didn't feel the need to pick them up, so by Friday night when I got home (Brandon had picked her up) she was buried in all of those books plus all of the toys in the black bucket behind her!

I made her "help" me clean it all up, which we all know means I picked it up, but oh well. At least she did pick up a few of the books.

We saw LOTS of princesses this past Saturday! Either on the ice or in the stands, they were everywhere! I was glad I had Mackenzie wear here pink tool skirt, because otherwise she might have been the only girl without some sort of tool skirt or costume!

There were multiple Snow Whites, Belles, Cinderellas, Ariels...in the stands, but we saw the "real princesses" on the ice!

First we saw Mickey and Minnie - which I think were Mackenzie's favorite.

We saw Snow White and the seven Dwarfs. We saw Belle and the dancing dishes.

Ariel and Eric were there, of course.

Mulan and her "Prince" (I don't remember his name), were also there.

We saw Sleeping Beauty and the evil witch (again I don't know her name). I will say that this seen was the "scariest" and darkest part of the show. I don't think I'll be watching Sleeping Beauty with Mackenzie any time soon just in case the movie is a little scarier than the ice show.

This is the last picture we took before we left - sweet Cinderella.
We left early because 2 hours is just too long for a 2 year old to stay seated and pay attention. At the intermission after an hour it was already getting difficult. By 1:15 (it had started at 11:30), I looked at Brandon and said, "we need to go home". So we did and missed all the traffic! Yay!

We really enjoyed ourselves and I think Mackenzie really liked it even if she did get a bit restless towards the end. Maybe by next April, we could actually stay for the whole performance of Toy Story on Ice, if we choose to buy those tickets.

Shoes for Abby

Apparently, Mackenzie felt Abby needed some shoes on her feet. This is how I found her doll the other day after I heard her run from her room to the play room.

I failed to take a picture of Elmo, but he was wearing purple crocs a few minutes later. I guess monsters and fairies wear shoes too! ;)

Picture Day

Wednesday was picture day at Mackenzie's school. We haven't had the best of luck with picture days in the past, so I was a little weary about spending time dressing her up, but I did it anyway. After asking her several times if she was going to smile for her pictures, she finally got up and pointed to the camera and said, "amra". Apparently, she wanted a trial run for picture day. She quickly ran to the fireplace to stand there for her pictures. I guess this will be our traditional picture taking place for posed pictures.

Since I was already running late that morning, I only took 3 pictures. Luckily, they are all pretty good.

My mom would be disappointed

Yesterday on my way to work I looked down at what I was wearing and laughed:

White 3/4 sleeve blouse
black and white wool skirt
bare legs - as in no hose or tights
open toed shoes even though my toenails weren't painted

To be fair, the high yesterday was 78 or 80 so I wasn't going to wear tights, but I probably should have changed skirts. I'm sure I committed a major fashion faux pas and my mom would have been so disappointed! ;) Sorry, Momma! ;)

Luckily, I didn't have any meetings yesterday and didn't go out to lunch, so no one really saw me except Mackenzie's day care. It's just so hard when the weather is like this because I think my summer clothes are not enough, but my winter clothes are too much.

Today, on the other hand I am wearing closed toes shoes, pants and a sleeveless shirt. At least I'm a little more appropriately dressed for an 80 degree high.

I elephant

Not too long ago, Mackenzie stuck a slinky in her mouth and said, "I elephant".
She then proceeded to walk around the room slinging the slinky around from her mouth acting like an elephant.

Who knew a slinky could also be an elephant's trunk. Maybe I can remember this for next year and she could be an elephant for Halloween!

Do we dare?

We received the following flier the other day:

Can a restaurant really do Chinese AND Mexican food? Really? It's tempting to go because Brandon really likes Chinese food and I really like Mexican food. But with both at the same restaurant, one of them is bound to not taste good, right? I think the smell of the place would be really strange. Maybe we'll just have it delivered and not pay attention to the fact that it came from the same place. I'll let you know if we order it and if we like it! ;)

Tractor Supply

A few days ago we went to the Tractor Supply store to pick up a birthday gift for my Papa. I wasn't expecting to stay there as long as we did and was very surprised at the reason why...

Mackenzie loved the store! She loved the small rocking chair and especially the stuffed plush horses and cows. They actually have quite a few toys there and we spent a good 15 minutes looking at all of the toys. She loved the horse on a stick toy and had to ride the pink, brown and black one at least once! After trying to ride all of the stuffed toys, she then had to touch all of the toy tractors.

Every time I tried to get us to leave, she said, "no, wait." I finally had to just pay for my stuff and pretend to leave in order for her to follow me and she wasn't too happy about leaving! Who knew that the tractor supply store would be her kind of store?! ;)

I love my new iPAD.
Brandon loves my new iPAD.
Mackenzie loves my new iPAD.

It's safe to say that the iPAD is fun for the whole family! Whenever I sit down with the iPAD Mackenzie comes running to me to watch "Chawi Bown". Otherwise known as "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" that ABC aired last week. She also likes this matching game we downloaded and she's actually surprisingly really good. She can do up to about 10 cards (5 matches) before she starts forgetting what card had what animal picture. The hardest thing of her is learning to only tap once.

So far I've just been using it mainly to surf the internet, but I did download the app so that I'm connected to my nook and can read my books from either device. I've also downloaded quite a few free books. Now if I would just use my free time to read instead of surfing the internet! ;)

My next task is to upload my contacts and appointments so that it becomes more of a planner for me that I could use on a regular basis. The otherthing we are excited about doing is using it as a portable DVD player in the car when we go to Dallas for Christmas.

YAY for free gifts! I highly recommend joining an event that gives this prize away! ;)

I wish I had a video camera..

oh wait, I do have a video camera. Then, I wish I used my video camera more! Lately, Mackenzie has been making us pretend to go "night night".

Last night she made Brandon and I close our eyes while we were sitting on the couch and pretend to sleep. Then she would half yell at us to say our prayers. If we didn't do everything just right, she would hit our leg and say, "no momma, night night" or "no momma, pray". I promise I don't hit her leg when we pray at night! ;)

The night before last, she made us lay down on the floor of the office and pretend to go to sleep and then we had to pray. If we sat up, she would push us back down and tell us to go "night night." Both nights Brandon and I are usually laughing the whole time, which doesn't usually help Mackenzie's patience with us. ;)

The best thing was Tuesday night - I was sitting on one of the couches and she laid her baby doll on the other couch to go "night night". She patted her on her chest and said, "Pray baby". She then put her hands together and prayed a few lines of our prayer we say every night. Afterwards she kissed her baby goodnight like I do every night. It was soooo cute and I wish I had had my camera recording.

She's still talking about being a ballerina for Halloween, so she definitely liked dressing up and last night she looked at the baby doll strollers in the PB kids magazine at least 4 or 5 different times!

I love that she's getting into make believe and pretend play - It's so much fun!
