One year ago today Brandon and I packed our suitcase and headed off to the hospital. Before we left we took on last belly shot:
At about 12:30, I walked into the operating room and at 1:24pm, Mackenzie Lauren Meyers was born! These were her stats:

This is her first present from us. She obviously didn't quite understand the concept of opening a present, but she did rip a couple of pieces.
The puzzle was a big hit and she'll get another one tonight! :)

She actually got her first birthday gift yesterday evening from her Uncle Casey and Aunt Virginie. It is a 3 little pigs playset. She absolutely loved them and actually fell asleep in my arms holding the wolf and one of the pigs.
She even thought they were still fun this morning! Thanks Casey and Virginie!

HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY MACKENZIE!

Family Pictures

Last weekend we had a friend from church take pictures of us. Mackenzie had a slight fever then and I guess the start of the flu, but she still has some excellent pictures! Mallory posted some of our pictures on her blog and I'll post more of our favorites later.

too early?

So, I'm pretty sure Mackenzie is trying to bite me every time I tell her no and pull her away from the lamp, the remote controls, the kitchen cabinets, etc...I thought the biting stage didn't happen until later! What in the world?!

Looooong Week!

Last weekend started out just fine - on Saturday Mackenzie and I went to the mall, we came home and had lunch with Brandon and we all took an afternoon nap. Later that night we had family portraits taken and went to dinner. While we were out, I thought Mackenzie felt a little warm so when we got home I took her temperature and sure enough she had a fever. By Sunday afternoon/evening her fever was 104, so we took her to the local urgent care facility where she tested positive for the flu! They even took a vile of blood (which she absolutely hated) to send it off for testing of H1N1. Sunday night and Monday we spent giving her tylenol and motrin to keep the fever down. I took her to the pediatrician on Tuesday for a followup appointment where she said Mackenzie had an ear infection because of all the drainage. So for the last few days she's been taking tylenol for the fever, benedryl for the runny nose/drainage and antibiotics for the ear infection. She is just like me and hates medicine. She has already learned to purse her lips and not let me stick the dropper in her mouth. Yesterday the fever finally went away and her drainage is definitely clearing up. She only has 2 more days on her antibiotics, so hopefully we are nearing the end of this illness. I'll be glad when she is back to her normal self. Her appetite is already close to normal, but she still rejects juice which she usually loves. I think she might think it's the pedialite that she didn't like.
I've been at home with her all week which I like, except for the fact that she's sick! I don't know how often I actually had palettes on the floor growing up, but for some reason I feel like I had them all the time. Because of this I felt the need to make her her her first palette. She seemed to really enjoy it, so it's been there all week. I've washed my hands I don't know how many times this week. I've done laundry a couple of times, which is unusual because I normally only do it on the weekend. Today and this weekend my mission is to clean, clean, clean! We need to make sure all of the flu cooties are gone before her big birthday next week! The real crazy thing about all of this is that in a week and a half, Mackenzie will have her 1 year check up and will get her vaccinations including the flu shot! Her doctor said she's still going to give her a flu shot so that she doesn't get it again this season. I think next year I'll be giving her a flu shot when I first see the signs offering flu shots! Be careful everyone it's flu season!!!!

PS - we never received a call from the clinic which means she didn't have the H1N1 virus.

09-09-09

For some reason I felt the need to post on this date. I read a little blurb from one of my friends on facebook about how this is the last single digit date for many years to come. That's probably not technically correct since 2009 isn't a single digit, but it sounds cool. The date got me thinking about all the dates we remember. I'm talking calendar dates, not romantic dates, although some of them might have been romantic dates. We, or at least I, remember lots of dates: birthdays (2/27, 5/23, 9/18, 8/11, 6/5, 4/20...); anniversaries - mine and others (6/9, 3/19, 4/26...); holidays (7/4, second sunday in May, third sunday in June, 4th thursday in November...) etc...

I don't always remember the year with the dates I remember, but some years stick with you:
4/26/86 - my mom married my dad (biologically not my dad - but in all other aspects, he IS my dad
8/8/88 - my dad "adopted" me so that I would have his last name - if you are ever looking for a funny story, ask me about how my brother thought I was adopted
1/7/00 - Brandon proposed
6/9/01 - Brandon and I were married
1/16/08 - found out I was pregnant
9/18/08 - Mackenzie born

Other dates I remember the year and the approximate date, but not the actual date:
Early March 1998 - grandfather passed away
Tuesday before Thanksgiving 2000 - my great grandmother passed away
Wednesday before Thanksgiving 2005 - my great grandfather passed away
Since these appear to be all related to deaths, I'm thinking my grief must cover the actual date in my mind.

I just think it's strange that on top of all the dates we remember, we also remember current dates for appointments and activities, plus we add new memories every year. I wonder how many more dates I will have memorized in 10 more years? Do you ever feel the need to right them all down? What if you got amnesia or some sort of memory loss - not everyone knows every date you know or remember. Besides my mom (who can remember the day of the week, the date, year and time), does anyone else feel like they are carrying so many dates around in their head?
Thanks for reading my ramble - maybe now you'll remember 9/9/09 for the day I went on and on about dates! :)

deja vu

I just looked back at previous posts and the last 3 posts with pictures of Mackenzie are very similar. In all of them she is wearing the same style shirt, but different colors. I promise she has other clothes than this! :)
