Working Out

After a couple of my bloggy friends talked about Jillian Michaels 30 day shred, I decided to buy the video. Monday night, after a month of it sitting on the table, I finally watched the video. Yes, I said "watched". I just wanted to get a feel for the video before I jumped right in and then realized I had no idea what I was doing. It didn't seem so bad, so I finally participated in the exercises last night. I have to say, that while I did make it to the end, I didn't quite do everything. Jumping jacks stink and during the jump rope I didn't really jump. Not to mention every few minutes I was having to say no to Mackenzie and move her somewhere else when she was trying to touch the stereo and dvd console. I guess that's what working out is like when you have a small child. I didn't want to put her in the pack 'n play when I had just picked her up from school. Overall she did pretty well, she just can't resist the lights and the new "toys".
I had to go back and re-read Aubrey's blog about her first day of 30DS and now that I've done it I can totally relate! Overall, I'm pretty sure I still got a good workout considering I'm pretty sore today. Here's to tonight for day 2!

Mackenzie turned 10 months old last Saturday and I realized I haven't posted her monthly pictures in quite some time. Below are the last 10 months!

Anniversary trip 2 years away!

Brandon and I celebrated our 8 year anniversary in June. At our anniversary dinner we discussed what we might want to do for our 10 year anniversary. I said that I wanted to go to London, but Brandon said that there are plenty of cities in the States that we've never been too. I agreed and had him name a place outside of Texas that he would want to visit. He replied with Boston and I accepted! What he doesn't know is that is now a binding verbal contract - we WILL go to Boston! (Aubrey help me out!) :) I figure we'll not only celebrate our 10 year anniversary, but his graduation from Grad school. Just thinking about our trip in 2 years makes me want to start planning now. I'm not kidding about planning for 2 years. You should have seen the stuff I prepared for New York 2 years ago. I think my Momma and Granny thought I was crazy, but if you are ever going to NYC for the first time, I have lots of stuff! :) So with all of this in mind, I started thinking about other cities/places that I would love to visit in the US. Below is my wishlist in no particular order:

NYC - again
Chicago - again
San Diego
San Fransisco
Grand Canyon
Niagra Falls
Disney World
Las Vegas
Mount Rushmore
Washington DC - again
Myrtle Beach

Does anyone have any other places they recommend? Keep in mind we are an architect and contractor, so cities with a history and wonderful architecture would be great!

On the move - sort of

So for the past month or more, Mackenzie has been scooting around backwards when she's on her tummy. When I put her down, I put toys all around her including behind her because I know she'll eventually scoot backwards and then rotate around to play with it. That is until yesterday! Yesterday after she and I were playing around on our bed, I thought she might be wanting to actually crawl on her hands and knees. When I put her down she stayed on her hands and knees (usually she immediately falls to her belly) and then actually inched forward. She didn't crawl with her belly off the ground but she did army crawl. Based on how everything seems to progress so fast from day to day (almost sitting up one day - sitting up perfectly the next or unable to put the food in her mouth one day - to perfectly self feeding the next), I'm thinking today or tomorrow she will be everywhere! One of my co-workers said to baby proof our house now - because he also thinks she'll be mobile very soon! While I know our lives are about to change/get hectic once she starts crawling, I'm really excited for us and her especially! I took video of her yesterday, but I didn't bring it to work. :) Maybe I'll get around to learning how to upload our videos to the blog this weekend!

Bloggy Funk

So after I read Holly's blog, I realized I suffer from the same Bloggy Funk Denial! So in order to try and work myself out of it I thought I'd copy a little bit of what she did and tell you what I've been doing lately. The day I found out I passed my last architecture exam, I ordered 6 books on amazon (4 for me, 2 for Mackenzie)! I am so excited to be able to read for fun again. I've always loved to read! I was in honors english classes in high school and for 4 years I had to read books the teacher assigned or some we selected from a pre-determined list. I enjoyed most of those books, but when you have to write a paper or do a project on every book you read, it kind of takes the fun out of them! I remember being so excited in college to read for fun whenever I wanted to. I think up until about 5 years ago I had read every Nora Roberts, Nicolas Sparks and Nicolas Evans books. I loved them. In the last 4 years since graduation I've read a few books, but not nearly as much as I would like. I digress...this is what I bought a few weeks ago:
I bought this book because I read, "Snow Flower and the secret Fan" by this author and loved it! I started this one last Thursday evening, didn't read on Friday or Saturday and am almost done. It's not as good as Snow Flower but it's still good.

I read this in high school and despite the numerous projects/papers we had to do for it, I still remember loving it. Hopefully I enjoy it that much as an adult.

I really like biographies. I've read about Cary Grant, Dean Martin, Doris Day, Audrey Hepburn...(can you tell what era I love?). I'm really looking forward to this one.

Of course I had to throw in some sort of learning type book. I started reading the first chapter in this book and figured out it's got quite a lot of science in it, so I'll have to be a little more awake and clear headed when I read it.

So, I think I'm back to my old self when it comes to reading again and I'm very excited. Every night this week (3 days so far), I've read for at least an hour after Mackenzie's gone to bed - I love it! Now hopefully, I'm out of my bloggy funk and will post a little more often this month!
