Back to School

Starting this fall, if you start seeing more of me and less of Brandon this is why:

This fall Brandon will begin taking classes in order to get his MBA. For 15 months he will go to class all day everyother Friday and Saturday and will graduate in May 2011! For the first 4 years of our marriage I was in school, so by our 10th anniversary one of us will have been in school 5 1/2 out of 10 years! It will be a long 15 months but very worth while! We are very excited for him and I just wanted to share with those who didn't know.

This Weekend

So this post is going to have quite a few pictures, so be prepared! Brandon came home Friday night after being out of town since Tuesday. When he first came home, Mackenzie wasn't too sure what to do:

But eventually she warmed up and didn't want to let go of him.

Then on Saturday we loaded up the car and went to my parents house for Mackenzie's first swim. I put on my old sunglasses for the first time and this is what Mackenzie thought:

So anway, once we got to my parents house we got ready to go swimming. Mackenzie was dressed and ready!
We took a hint from Erin and carried her into the pool rather than putting her in the float first. She didn't get super happy, but she didn't cry either, so I think she had a good time. It looks like we'll have to go swimming a little more often. We bought a small blow up pool, but I think I'll have to figure out what I need to do to go to our neighborhood pool.

Our new favorite picture is her sitting in the chair after her swim.
I love that the sunglasses are too big for her! I realized today that they actually match the outfit is wearing right now, so when I take her 9 month photos later today, I'll be sure to put the glasses on again.

I PASSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just looked online and found out that I passed my last architectural exam! Woohoo, I'm finally finished. Now, I just need to send in some more paperwork and I should be licensed by the end of the year if not in a few months! So, 4 years of undergrad, 3 years of grad, hours upon hours of studying, (1) 3 day seminar, 1 failed exam, 9 passed exams and about $1000 dollars later, I'm finally going to be a licensed Architect with a capital A! It was all worth it!

False Alarm

So apparently Mackenzie didn't have strep throat after all. Her nurse called me on Wednesday to say that her overnight culture came back negative and that she didn't need to take her medication anymore. The rash appeared the day after she went to the doctor, so she couldn't help me with that one except to say use lotion if it bothers her. Since all parents with internet access become doctors...we diagnosed Mackenzie with either Fifth Disease or Roseola. In the end, I'm not sure what she had because her rash didn't seem to match either of the disease descriptions fully. But none of it really matters because she is all better now! No rash, no fever and we get to go to church in a little while! Woohoo!

Sick Girl

This is a face of a sick girl:
Mackenzie started getting a low grade fever on Saturday evening and we thought she was teething, so we gave her medicine and put her to bed. Around midnight she woke up wide awake and at 1:00 am, Brandon let her play in her exersaucer while he played on the internet. They both went to bed around 3:00am. When she woke up at 6:00 on Sunday morning she still had a fever. The fever hung around and reached it's peak at 101.6. By Monday morning it was down to 99.4 and she seemed somewhat back to normal. Since we thought it was teething, we warned her school, but still dropped her off. At 2:30 they called to say her temperature was 102.4. Brandon took her to the doctor and they diagnosed her with Strep Throat. Apparently it's rare in babies, but obviously can happen.

Today her temperature hasn't been higher than 99.6, but she has a slight rash.
I'm watching this rash and trying not to over react to the internet websites describing rashes and strep throat as Scarlett Fever. As far as I can tell, her rash isn't exactly what they describe and since she's on antibiotics now, I assume it can only get better. So, today I'm at home taking care of her and this is what we've done so far:

Medicine - Lots of medicine!
We hung out in the bed and watched some TV.
We played in our walker.
We of course had some mommy and me time (notice the rash that looks sort of like a sunburn)
And currently we are doing this!
I have business trip tomorrow, so if she's still not feeling well, it looks like Mackenzie will have some one-on-one time with her daddy!

*To Erin and Liz, I apologize if you get sick. We really just thought she was teething!*

Baby Doll

So this past Monday when I picked Mackenzie up from school, her teacher asked if she had a baby doll. I told her no, but we have lots of stuffed animals, especially elephants! She then proceeded to hold up another girl's baby doll so Mackenzie could see. Apparently, Mackenzie really likes dolls! Her eyes got big, she smiled, started jumping in my arms and reaching for the doll. Her teacher told her that we would get her a doll the next day. I think she knows us little too well! :) It wasn't Tuesday, but I did buy her a doll on Wednesday. I bought the only one they had that didn't have sound or movement - just your plain jane baby doll. It took a little getting used to, but she really likes it, especially the eyes. She likes to scratch at the eyes!

Please excuse the "I need a bath" hair. She didn't get a bath this morning as planned, so we are waiting until tonight. Unfortunately, Mackenzie inherited mine and Brandon's hair - must wash every day! I also realized after taking these pictures she still had a little dried squash on her face. Oh well, it's Sunday afternoon, no need to be dressed up! :)

deja vu

This picture looks really familiar...oh that's right this is my same team from 2 years ago at our company Bowling Tournament. It looks like we are the team to beat, since we won again this year. We didn't win any fancy trophies this year, but we did win Astros tickets! Every year we have a lot of fun at my company bowling tournament - this year was no exception. The theme was "tube socks", so Brandon and I went to our local Academy and bought soccer socks that we probably won't ever use again. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of me in my socks, but here is Brandon about to bowl!
I did not do so well bowling, but Brandon got his best score ever of 158! He missed the top score of the tournament by 5 points/pins! 2 of the 4 years we've bowled, we've been on the winning team...I wonder what 2010 has in store for us?!

If you haven't bowled recently, you should find some lanes nearby and try it! It's a blast! Happy Bowling!
