Daytime Television

My last year of Grad school, I didn't have class until 3:00, so I was at home doing school work or working around the house the remainder of the time. I remember watching Regis and Kelly every morning, but I think I must have had Friends or movies on in the background the rest of the day, because I don't remember watching anything else. Fast forward to now and as Mackenzie and I slowly start to develop a schedule, I think I've become addicted to daytime television again. Here is the TV schedule:

9:00 - Regis and Kelly ( I don't usually turn on the TV before 9:00)
10:00 - The View (only for a few minutes until they start fighting and then I try and find something else, usually What not to Wear)
11:00 - morning news/What not to Wear (I've really come to love this show!)
12:00 - Ellen (I may not believe in her views, but she is hillarious!)
1:00 - 7th Heaven
2:00 - Rachel Ray
3:00 - What you get...(this is on the Fine Living Network and shows you different houses that cost certain amounts of money - yesterday was houses for $400,000)
4:00 - Jon & Kate plus 8
5:00 - 7th Heaven
6:00 - 7th Heaven (Brandon gives me a hard time for watching this show, but until now I don't think he realized how many times a day its on!)

I don't necessarily watch the TV all day, but it is on as background noise. I think it will slowly diminish as Mackenzie gets older and we can get out more. For the last week, Mackenzie has started sleeping for longer periods of time by herself without me having to hold her, so now I can actually do stuff around the house and am not tied to the couch or recliner. This afternoon, I think I'm going to try and take her for a walk in her stroller so we can breathe some fresh air.

On another note - I finally realized that I was misunderstanding the doctor. It's not that I couldn't take Mackenzie out in public until she was vaccinated, it's that since it's flu season, I shouldn't take her out for the first 8 weeks until her immune system is built up. It looks like I'll be taking pictures of her, instead of her, to my shower this weekend. She'll be 6 weeks this week, so eventually we'll introduce her to the world! :)

Just Pictures

I was informed by Brandon that I didn't post very flattering photos of Mackenzie in my last post. I apologize to Mackenzie and Brandon and hopefully these next photos will make up for the previous post. I am not however going to delete the pictures as requested, Mackenzie doesn't care - she's 5 weeks old! :)
I think she looks like such a big girl in these pajamas.

Happy 1 Month Birthday

My mom bought Mackenzie a build-a-bear that I'm going to use every month when taking her picture. Yesterday I took the first picture of the two of them and this is what Mackenzie thought:

I'll try again today to see if I can get a better picture! Below are some other random pictures I've taken in the last 2 weeks.

"I like my swing sometimes!"

"Momma, this outfit is way too big!"

"I'm not sure what to think of my play gym."

2 week check up

So, I know this is a little late considering Mackenzie is now 3 weeks old, but last Friday we took her for her 2 week check up. She is now (was) 7 pounds 10 3/4 ounces and 21 inches long. She left the hospital weighing 6 pounds 13 ounces, so she gained almost a whole pound and grew 1 1/2 inches in 2 weeks! Everything at the appointment went well, but I hve to share something that really surprized me and I would like some opinions from the other mothers reading this blog.

Mackenzie goes back on November 18 for her 2 month ckeck up and to get vaccinated. Our pediatrician said that until she's vaccinated she shouldn't be out in public. I though this was very strange and a little much. Am I being selfish because I don't want to be cooped up in this house for two thirds of my maternity leave? According to the doctor we shouldn't taker her to church, the grocery store or anywher with large crwods. Call me crazy, but I would like for people to meet Mackenzie before she's 2 months old! I don't want to get Mackenzie sick, but at the same time I feel like the doctor is being way too strict. I've seen tons of babies younger thatn 2 months out in public. Should I stop my complaining and stay indoors until November? Should I ask for vaciinations early? Should I ingnore the doctor and go out anyway?

I think one of the things that annoys me about teh vaccination is that the doctor would vaccinate her early if I had to be back at work in 6 weeks. I guess I feel like because I have 3 months of maternity leave, I'm being punished to have to stay indoors. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE spending time with Mackenzie, but I also want to go to church, see my friends, and show off my daughter! Am I being selfish? Tell me what you think.

Newborn Photos

We had newborn pictures taken of Mackenzie when she was 1 week old. We were able to get a few pictures of her completely naked before she went to the bathroom on the photographer's blanket! After that, she was unhappy until we put a diaper on her. Finally, we fed her again and she fell asleep. Brandon and I have to choose 4 to be printed, but it's so hard to decide. Let me know what your favorites are.
