A new leaf

Who knew there was so much to think about when choosing stuff for a baby. While researching the stuff we needed/wanted for Mackenzie we decided we wanted to use BPA free bottles and plastic ware as well as buy an organic matress. With that in mind, we started looking at the items we own and decided to try to make a change. I bring my lunch almost every day of the week and heat my food in plastic conainers. I've heard that this isn't very healthy for you because of the leaching of chemicals throught the plastic. I had thought about buying glass containers several time, but never did. So, this weekend, while we were in preparation mode, we bought glass containers and packed away several of our tuppaware containers. We also bought several glass/metal containers to store some of our food in the pantry. After less than a week, we are already wanting to buy more glass to replace all of our tuppaware and I've even thought about getting rid of our 20 plastic cups (in 3 different colors!) that we use everyday. I think I'm also going to buy some bags to use at the grocery store instead of the plastic bags. It's the little steps right? I think I could get into the "green" mode with the exception of driving my car everywhere. I know this is just my way of justifying it, but in the Houston suburbs you need a car. So besides the car, this is our new leaf. We are going to try to be a little more friendly to our environment and maybe we can live a little healthier lives at teh same time! Anyone else in green mode lately?

Preparing for Mackenzie

This weekend Brandon and I focused on Mackenzie. We registered for what we think we'll need for when she arrives and then some! :) It was so much fun to go look at all the baby stuff! Apparently, I'm pretty boring when it comes to the colors and/or graphics on sippy cups, bottles, etc. I didn't want all the different cartoon characters on the cups/plate and so therefore Brandon thought I was being way to neutral! :) I compensated hopefully, by registering for mostly pink towels, washcloths, bibs, burp cloths, and bedding. I'm also almost 100% positive she'll be wearing a lot of pink!

We cleaned out the spare room and rearranged the bed to make room for the crib and dresser. We put a deposit down for her dresser and are waiting for the crib to become available. I even started cleaning out the pantry and other cabinets to make room for the baby stuff that will eventually have to be stored there. I know it's really early to be "nesting", but this weekend sure felt like that was what I was doing! As Brandon put it, "you sure can fill up trash bags quickly." The only thing about cleaning out, at least for me, is that I think it's a requirement to mess up another room while cleaning out one! Now that the spare room and kitchen/pantry are finished, the office and our bedroom are a little messed up. Eventually everything will even out and all will be cleaned - I hope! :)

Brandon's 30th Birthday!

Today is Brandon's 30th birthday. While he did have to drive to Huntsville and work on his birthday, at least he gets a 3 day weekend! I was going to post pics of his past birthdays, but I forgot to bring them to work and he probably wouldn't want everyone to see a bunch of pictures of just him. He seems to be acting like this birthday is not a big deal and everything is normal. I hope I can be just as calm when I turn 30! At least I still have 2 more years! :)

I love you and hope you are having a great day!

7 down...2 to go...I think

Sunday afternoon I took my 7th of 9 architectural exams that I have to pass before becoming a licensed architect. I now have to wait for another 2 or 3 weeks to see if I passed. If I didn't pass then I have to wait 6 months before retaking it - which puts it after Mackenzie is born. Hopefully, I won't have to do that because I don't imagine I'll have much time to study after she's born! :) Now I have 2 more exams to pass before the end of the summer. For the time being the rest of May is "all things baby/Mackenzie"! I'm finally going to focus on our registry, the nursery, the rest of the house and so forth. I'm really excited because I feel like I haven't really gotten to due that in a few weeks because of my studying.

Saturday we are going to Target and Babies R Us to register for all the baby stuff. Now is the time for all you parents out there to give me opinions on different gadgets/equipment you bought for your children. What didn't you like? What did you like? What did you wish you had bought before the baby was born? I'm also having a hard time with quantities - as in how many towels, bed sheets, bottles, bibs, etc. to buy. Any suggestions?

Ultrasound Pics

As promised, pics of Mackenzie. I don't if this is a sign of what's to come, but she was very fidgety this morning and kept moving around towards the end when the technician was trying to get a picture of her heart. Hopefully it was just the juice I drank this morning that kept her moving, not that she's camera shy or super hyper!

She's showing us the bottom of her foot here!

She kept her arms near her face/head.

This is her best profile shot.

This one you can see her little fist with her thumb sticking out near her head.

As an added photo, here I am at 20 weeks - that's a lot of blue! :)

It's a...

GIRL!!!!! Brandon and I are both so excited! I'll post pictures tonight of the ultra sound when I get home, but for now I thought I'd share the news! Her name is Mackenzie Lauren and no she will not have a nickname! Mackenzie is her name and that's what she'll be called! :)

If I was a rich girl...

Since I shared about how much I loved Netflix, I decided I better not forget to give a "shout out" to! I've had a wish list on there since college and I keep it up-to-date for Christmas and Birthdays and any other occasions. When you make these wish lists, it's like imagining you could had all the money in the world and could buy whatever you wanted (of DVD's, Music and Books...). It kind of reminds me of Gwen Stefani's remake of a Fiddler on the Roof song, "If I was a Rich Girl". When I was in elementary school, my Granny used to get the Spiegel catalogs occasionally and save them for me to look at. I would get a pen and paper and write down everything I liked and would have bought if I was an "adult". At the end I would tally it up and see what everything cost. I remember having a total of at least $5000 one time and thinking that it would be so cool if I had that much money and could buy that many clothes, shoes and jewelry. If I had 5000 dollars to spend now, any way I chose, what would I do? Hopefully, I would save some of it or buy something for the house or pay down the car or house note. But, when I think about it a little more, I think I'm still the little girl looking at the catalog, because I have a feeling I would still spend a large amount on clothes, shoes and jewelry!

What would you do with $5000?

I love Netflix! I think I have over 300 movies in my queue which will take me at a minimum 2 years to watch! And that's only if I don't add anymore to the list! I guess I like the laziness aspect of not having to go anywhere (except the mailbox) to get my movies. I also use netflix to see a lot of my old movies - you know, the black and white movies Brandon thinks are stupid. I love that Netflix recommends movies based on my reviews. Over half of the classic movies from the 40's, 50's and 60's, I would never have seen if Netflix had not recommended them to me.

Brandon has a similar thing with Gamefly, where he gets a video game by mail and returns it whenever he's finished. The other day I found myself thinking that I wish there was a place where I could select books and read them and then I could send them back when I was finished. I then realized that's what a LIBRARY is called! :) Maybe I should look into getting a library card at our local library. I love to read, but it can get pretty expensive buying new books all the time.

Does anyone else love to read books as much as I do? Are you obsessed with Netflix too?

Back To My Roots

You can tell how old a tree is based on it's growth rings. With that in mind, up until this morning, I felt like a tree! I've been highlighting my hair for the last couple of years, but I hadn't redone my roots since December, so basically I had a huge "growth ring" in my hair! My friend gave me the number of the salon/hairstylist she uses and today I went back to my natural color. I even cut my hair short again. Summer pregnancy here I come! :)

Food, Food, Food

According to my doctor, I should be gaining 2-3 pounds every month. My appointment is in 1 1/2 weeks and I have only gained 1 pound this month. I never thought I'd see the day that I would want to gain weight! :) I keep thinking my doctor is going to be upset if I don't gain any weight - so Brandon and I have made plans to EAT this weekend! :) Tonight we are going to Sonic - one of my favorite fast food places! I know this sounds stupid that I would get so excited about Sonic, but Brandon rarely wants to eat fast food, so I jump at the chance to go! Plus, the added bonus for both of us is the dessert. I think we are going there mainly for the Sonic blast and Milk shake, but then will also buy actual food to fill our stomachs! Brandon knows that I love mexican food (anything with lots of cheese!), so we are going to one of our favorite mexican restaurant on Saturday night! All of this is really cheap food and probably very fattening, but I don't care - I have a pound or 2 to gain in one week! Let's eat! :)

I do realize that I'll probably want to forget I ever wrote this post after I've had the baby and am trying to lose all the weight I've gained!
