50 years!

According to my marriage clock/ticker, Brandon and I have been married for 6 years, 9 months, 1 week and 3 days. If this was my Granny's blog, the ticker would say 50 years! Today is my "Granny and Papa's" 50th wedding anniversary! I hope that Brandon and I live long healthy lives that we can celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2051. We (the family) are hosting a Golden Celebration for my grandparents in April. We can't wait to give them the wedding reception they never had! I have lots to say about the special project I'm working on for the reception, but since Granny reads my blog, I'll have to wait until after April 5th! :) I just want to wish my grandparents a Happy Anniversary today and to let them know what a great example they are of what a kind, loving, long lasting marriage can be!

GO ROCKETS!

I admit I'm a fair weather fan. When it comes to sports, I enjoy watching football, baseball and basketball occasionally, but I do not by any means keep up with the Houston teams. I first heard the Rockets were doing well when they were about to win their 13th game in a row a couple of weeks ago. Since then, I've been thinking about how I used to watch the Rockets games with my Granny and Papa when I was little. I remember betting a penny to see who could pick the final score. I don't remember much about the games, but I do remember that we would wear our Rockets t-shirts while watching the game. All this week, I've been looking for a photo where Papa put on a suit and tie with his Rockets shirt. Tonight I finally found it, so I had to post the pictures below as proof of our silliness!

Me and Papa in the recliner. It's a little cut off, but we were having fun!

Granny and Papa

As promised, me and Papa with his suit. If you know my Papa, this goofiness does not surprise you. On the back of this photo, Granny wrote the final score: Rockets 109, Trailblazers 86.

GO ROCKETS!!! Go for 22 in a row!

Long Time Waiting

For the first 4 years of marriage I was in undergraduate and graduate school and therefore it was understood that Brandon and I would not be having children. When I graduated in 2005 there still wasn't any pressure to have kids because my sisters have kids and I still had my architecture exams to pass. While my family appeared to be waiting patiently for us to have children, they secretly were hoping for babies to come soon! Below are my examples of their patience! :)

This is the front and back of the quilt for our baby that my Granny made in 2003! She said she knew she wouldn't be able to make it as quickly as she would want to give it to me.

This is the elephant rocking horse that I saw in the Pottery Barn Kids catalog 2 years ago. It's been in my parent closet for the last year and a half.

We also received a number of other gifts from my sister, mom and grandmother. I joke about the patience, but I'm really glad they were hiding their patience. I love all my gifts and I can't wait to show them to the baby in September! Thank you everyone for everything!

HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY MANDY!

Today is my step-sister's 30th birthday, so in honor of her, I've posted pictures of her throughout the years! She might be a little mad about this, but in the end those of you who aren't family and reading this, probably don't know her anyway. Mandy (Amanda, Sister, Auntie) and I have been sisters since April 26th, 1986. We went to the same high school and even had the same English teacher in the same year (she taught 9th and 11th grade). Do you remember Ms. Berner, Mandy? Anyways, she has a wonderful son and great boyfriend who we just found out is 29, not 31 as some of us believed! :) I know that's a little more of an inside joke, but hopefully Simeon is reading this and laughing. Now, lets go back in time and look at Mandy through the years!

Michael Buble

About 6 months ago Brandon bought a Michael Buble CD at Best Buy and when I first heard it, I wondered why on earth Brandon bought it and not me. If you have never heard of Michael Buble, he sings a lot of 50's/60's Big Band Music but he does have several songs that have crossed over to the pop charts. For those of you who don't know, my mom says I'm an "old soul". I think I was born in the wrong decade when it comes to music and movies...I love Dean Martin, Audrey Hepburn, Doris Day...50's stuff. For this reason, the CD stayed in Brandon's truck for about a week and then I've had it ever since. Brandon and I both really like his music and so for Christmas, Brandon bought 2 tickets for us to see Michael Buble at the Toyota Center on Saturday night. It was sooooo much fun! :) He is a great entertainer and singer! He had his band (3 trumpets, 2 trombones, 3 saxaphones, drums, bass and piano) and it was cool to imagine what it would have been like to see Sinatra or Dean Martin perform with a band like this. I absolutely loved it. If you have not heard Michael Buble sing before, check out his website, you might find you like his music. Thanks honey for the tickets!

Also, below are really bad pictures from my phone - I didn't even think to bring my camera.
