Go Texan Day!

Happy Go Texan Day to all of you. I think this just might be a Houston thing because of the Rodeo, but I'm spreading the good cheer to those of you not in Houston and especially Aubrey and Dustin in Illinois! As a kid our elementary school always allowed us to where cowboy hats if we had one and this was the only time you were allowed to where hats in class. As a college student I never paid attention to this day, but now it's different. I've come to love Go Texan Day in the last few years because it is the only day in our office that we can where JEANS! As I've said before, our office does not have casual days (except weekends), so everyone jumps at the chance to dress casual. I even did a special load of laundry last night just so I would have jeans to wear today! :) I know this sounds silly, but when you dress up 5 days a week, you look forward to the little things! Hope everyone has a great day and not only enjoys Go Texan Day but also has a great Leap Day!

Dean Martin & Pantera

At Christmas I used some of my gift money to finally buy an IPOD. Brandon spent 2 days loading all of our CD's and other MP3's we already had. I also have the adapter in my car and I use the shuffle feature so I can have a variety of songs. Let's keep in mind that while Brandon and I do share a lot of the same taste in music, we still each have our extremes that the other person doesn't care for. My example of our difference in music is from this morning when the IPOD went from playing Dean Martin's "Mambo Italiano" to one of Pantera's songs...Now that's variety! :)

Happy Birthday to Me!

Happy Birthday to Me,
Happy Birthday to Me,
Happy Birthday to Charlton,
Happy Birthday to Me!

Today has been a good day and it isn't even over! I slept in this morning and went to work late because I had to renew my passport at the post office. Then, after having worked only 1 1/2 hours it was time for lunch and a group of us from the office went to Becks Prime for a wonderful cheeseburger! After lunch I decided I would leave early and so I left at 4. It feels so great to drive to and from work when its daylight, instead of in the dark as I do most days during the winter! :) So in the end I worked a 1/2 day, but considering the last 2 years I took the entire day off, this is pretty good. Tonight Brandon and I will go out to dinner, but I haven't decided where I want to eat.

Saturday we had my family and Brandon's mom over to celebrate my birthday and to tell them our good news. Below are some pics.

My nephew James helped me open presents.

Notice the abundance of dessert...turtle cheesecake, 2 layer chocolate cake, giant cookie cake and (3) 1/2 gallons of icecream...all for 13 people!

The grandmother's to be opening their gifts!

Brandon and my mom with her new frame and picture. The frames say, "Good mothers become...even better grandmothers."

New Ticker

As some of you may have noticed, I've added a new ticker just below the marriage ticker! That's right, I'm pregnant! :) Brandon and I are expecting our first child on September 26th! We found out about mid-January and have been keeping it a secret for almost 6 weeks! Yesterday, we couldn't hold out any longer and had to tell our family. We told most of our family yesterday and have been telling anyone and everyone since! We are very excited and can't wait to meet our new addition in 7 months. A couple of weeks ago, we went for our first doctors visit and got to see the baby. At our next appointment in a few weeks, we'll get to hear the heart beat. I've been very blessed so far with only a little bit of nauseousness, but have never actually gotten sick. I'll keep everyone posted over the next several months and I'll try my best to not blog only about my pregnancy!

He/she is only a little bigger than a large grape right now, so obviously I'm not showing yet. Below is a picture of our first ultrasound. I know it doesn't look like much, but it's our baby! :)

Microwaves and Ovens

I use my oven about once a week and my microwave the remainder of the week. Some of you may know that I cook a meal on Sunday afternoon that Brandon and I will eat throughout the week. I use the oven to bake a meal and use the microwave each weeknight to heat the food and essentially we eat "leftovers". Sunday I prepared some deliciouse beef enchilladas and was looking forward to eating them last night. I placed our servings on our plates, put a plate in the microwave, punched 1:30, pressed start, and...nothing! The light came on and it made a clicking noise, but no heat or microwaving! I tried it several more times (apparently thinking that it had just forgotten what it was supposed to do! ) and nothing happened. I even tried plugging it into a different receptacle thinking that would help, but no. For those of you who have seen our microwave, you might need be too surprised that it died. It was my microwave that my family had when I was growing up. I'd say that it is atleast 20 years old. It's lived a long and productive life and its now time to put it to rest! :)

Brandon said that he would go buy a new one for us and that we would just eat something else for tonight. We ended up looking at microwaves last night and then going out to eat. Brandon is going to buy a new microwave tonight. I think technology has spoiled us just a little! :) I found it funny, that we just decided to go out to eat instead of turning on the oven and heating the enchilladas the "old fashioned" way! Maybe tonight we can eat our enchilladas after they have been heated in our new microwave!

Pictures

I love looking at pictures! Whether they are mine or someone else's, I could look at pictures for hours at a time. There is something about looking at photos that brings back such fond memories and takes you back in time. I always remember that moment first, and then I start to remember other things/stories from that same time period and it just brings a smile to my face, or tear to my eye in some cases.
For the past several months I've been scanning in old family photographs in the hopes of adding them to my family tree and so that we have digital copies of all our pre-digital camera photos. While looking at some this weekend, I found a few that I wanted to share with whoever reads my blog. They are all within the last 10 years, but they all take me back to that place in time...realizing I wanted to have children with Brandon when we babysat my cousins, enjoying family vacations in the Caribbean, or all the trips to my great grandparents house in Arkansas. :) They all mean so much to me and almost every picture has the same affect on me.
Call me too emotional if you want, but I love it. I love that our brain and heart work like that and they help us to recall such wonderful memories just with one little 4x6 image! I know the pictures may or may not mean anything to some of you, but I wanted to share them anyway! Enjoy...I think I purposely chose pictures that weren't too old that might make you question what exactly was I thinking in the wardrobe department! :)

Brandon sitting with my two youngest cousins Beck and Chloe in the Summer of 1999. He seemed so comfortable looking after children even at age 21.

Chloe and Brandon looking at each other. Brandon met my family just days before Chloe was born in January 1999. He can truly say that he's known her her whole life! That doesn't happen very often when you marry into a family. :)

One of the first fish I ever caught. This was a family vacation in the Cayman Islands in 1999. What I think is great about this photo is it reminds me that on most vacations I went on with my family we almost always planned some sort of fishing/boating trip. If you want to hear an amusing story, ask me sometime about my sunburn from this particular fishing trip! :)

Me and my great-granddaddy on my favorite swing at his house in Cabot, Arkansas. We took this picture early in the morning the winter of 1998 before we left to come back home. I only went back to Cabot 2 more times after that. My grandparents brought the swing back to Texas when they moved granddaddy down here. - Oh the memories -

A weekend of nothing!

This weekend I feel like I did absolutely nothing and I loved every minute of it! :) I guess I'm really only talking about Saturday since I did all my "chores" on Sunday. I couldn't sleep Friday night, so unfortunately I was up at 6:00 am on Saturday morning. Since we were up, Brandon and I decided to go eat breakfast at IHOP! It was soooo delicious. So, once my belly was full and I was in the recliner, I was able to take a morning nap (9am-11am). I felt like a little baby who wakes up early and then needs several naps during the day, except that this was my only nap. I think that the next time I can't sleep, I'm going to fix something to eat and lay in the recliner and maybe that will help! Brandon and I did go out for dinner Saturday night and ran a few errands, but that's about it! Because of this laziness, Sunday was a full day! In the end it's not so bad. While I probably should have gotten outside and enjoyed the weather, I couldn't help but completely relax and not think about work and all the things I needed to do. I'll just keep that list for next weekend! I hope you guys had a more productive day than I did...wait, no, I wish everyone at least one day of laziness and nothingness! :)

Super Bowl

I'm not really a big football sports fan, but this year just seems different. Every year our office has a football pool for the regular season. I decided to play this year even though I know nothing about the teams. Everyweek I had to choose what team would win and would get a point if I was right. I ended up in 4th place out of 13 which was really good! A couple of times I even had 1st place for the week! It felt great to beat some guys who know tons more about football than I do!
Because of the interest during the regular season, I really wanted to watch the Super Bowl yesterday. Besides aggie football, yesterday's game might very well be the first football game I have ever watched all the way through. I watched from the kick-off all the way to the final second when everyone already knew the Giants had won! Brandon and I were going to go watch the game at a friend's house but decided at the last minute to stay at home and watch the game in our pajamas! :)
From the beginning, Brandon and I were rooting for the Giants. I think human tendancy is to root for the underdog and the Giants were definitely the underdog. There are several reasons why I think it was awesome that the Giants won:

1. It's the super Bowl - the game of all games - and now they are the champions for this year!
2. They beat the undefeated team! No one else in the league beat them this year except the Giants!
3. Eli Manning, the quarterback, will have a matching super bowl ring like his brother who's team won last year! Can you imagine being the parents of 2 sons who are superbowl champion quarterbacks and MVP's?

Anyways, I really enjoyed watching the game and maybe next year I'll watch more than just the one football game all the way through! :)
