Exersaucer fun!

The other night, Brandon decided to put Mackenzie in a walker we had been given from one of my coworkers. We weren't sure we were going to keep it because there isn't much room in our house for her to maneuver the walker around. Based on Mackenzie's reaction, I think we'll keep it in the kitchen for her to use while I'm cooking dinner. So at 3 months she is not by any means moving it around, but she did stay there quite content for probably close to 20 minutes. While 20 minutes may not seem like a lot to some people, it's amazing what I can get done in 20 minutes with TWO free hands! Since she enjoyed the walker so much, Brandon put together the exersaucer and she enjoyed that for a little while also. Here's to many more fun times in the walker and exersaucer!

I know she looks so small in the seat, but she really did enjoy it!
She kind of just hung there and let her feet touch the ground. I think she might have pushed up once or twice. Eventually she'll get the hang of it!
Fun in the exersaucer!

Wedding Bells

Yesterday, my "little" brother (he's at least 6'3") got married. All of us sisters and our parents were very proud!

His WIFE is perfect for him and the two of them together are so cute! She looked very beautiful and he was so handsome. Don't they look so in love!

Kelsey is an only child, so while we all gained a new sister, she gained 3!

Congratulations and Best Wishes Ryan and Kelsey!

We Survived!

Well, we survived the first day of day care today. To help Mackenzie and myself to transition to full time school and work, Mackenzie started day care today. She will go half days for the remainder of the month and start full time in January. I only cried a little...that's my story and I'm stickin' to it! :) In 3 1/2 hours they figured out that Mackenzie is normally rocked to sleep or atleast held until she falls asleep. They said they tried a bouncy seat, then the crib and then finally she fell asleep in the swing. Of course, I knew she would do fine and I was only worried about myself. To take my mind off of not being with her at home, I went shopping at Target and Famous Footwear. This could be an expensive week if I keep this up! Just kidding...the rest of the week I need to clean up and organize the house before I go back to work. As far as the afternoons go, I'm soaking up every minute with her and enjoying every minute of my last 3 weeks at home!

Christmas?!

Is it just me or has the holiday season really gone by fast? I keep thinking Christmas is still a long way off and yet it's only 11 days away! I decided not to decorate this year or put a tree up, so that is probably why I don't feel like it's Christmas. I've done most of my shopping, but I still have a few more people to buy for and I only have 11 days! While this might seem like a lot of days, Mackenzie is still not where I can go run errands with her. If I went to the store with her I would probably have to be prepared to leave my cart in the middle of the store to go home. I guess that is always an option if I get really desperate to shop. Another thing that usually gets me in the Christmas spirit is Christmas music. I usually listen to my Christmas CD's in the car the entire month of December, but this year I haven't put any in. We also were unable to go to either of our work Christmas parties this year which usually signals that Christmas is around the corner.

Last night we went to Couples Bunko which was kind of like a Christmas party and tonight our Life Group from Church is having a White Elephant exchange so we are slowly getting into the Christmas spirit. We also bought all of Mackenzie's presents a couple of weeks ago, so Christmas morning should be fun. All we plan to do is lay her on a blanket and pile all her stuff around her! There is no need to wrap anything seeing as how she isn't even sitting up on her own!

So, I guess let the countdown begin...less than 11 days until Christmas...ready or not!

Dressed for Snow

Apparently I missed the snow flurries our area had yesterday. I got on the internet last night and everyone was talking about snow. I looked out our window and nothing! In honor of the possibility of snow, here's a picture of Mackenzie in one of her new outfits. We'll just pretend it was that cold in our house! :)

Normal

Most of you know Mackenzie was breech which is why I had to have a c-section. Not only did she not turn head down, but she was basically folded in half. Her feet were up by her head. Our doctor warned us that her legs would not be down or curled up like most babies and she was right...

This is Mackenzie just a few hours after she was born. The only way to get her legs together was to swaddle her. All breech babies are required to have a hip ultrasound to make sure nothing is wrong after being in that position for so long. So, after 2 ultrasounds and 11 weeks, Mackenzie's hips have been declared "normal"! If anything, she's just a little bit more flexible than most babies! :) She also still has the tendency to not sit so lady like. We'll have to work on that in the years to come.

Early Christmas

Mackenzie had her first Christmas this past weekend and slept right through it! She woke up after we had opened all the presents and let me play "dress up" with her and her new clothes! :)
For the last 2 years my family has gone to Fredericksburg the first weekend in December to watch the Christmas Parade. This year was even better because my parents had recently bought some property with a house where the whole family could stay instead of at a hotel. Mackenzie did great on the drive up. She slept for the first 2 1/2 hours - she woke up when we came to a stop in San Antonio. We stopped and had lunch in Boerne and then she went back to sleep for the last hour. We intended to take her to the parade and had her all bundled up in the sling with a hat and big blanket, but she DID NOT like the cold weather. She screamed/cried while we were outside for max 10 minutes and continued to cry the entire 20 minute ride home. Once we got home and she warmed up she went right to sleep and slept through the night!
The rest of the weekend was great and my family exchanged gifts and had fun visiting with eachother. Mackenzie received lots of clothes, books, toys and of course some of her first Christmas ornaments. The ride home started off okay, but was a little rough the rest of the way home. We ended up going through Austin on the way home instead of San Antonio like the way up. While this isn't a big difference for us drive wise, it is for Mackenzie. Going through Austin means taking a Highway instead of an Interstate. Highway means lights, slower speeds and traffic. Interstate means fast speeds and clear sailing. For Mackenzie, who does not care for her car seat and does not like to slow down or stop, highways are horrible! Luckily for Christmas in a few weeks we'll be on I-45 the entire trip to Dallas!
I only took 3 pictures the entire trip - I guess I was a little busy. :)
From left, my sisters Amanda & Courtney, my soon to be sister-in-law Kelsey and my brother Ryan. I know the picture may not look like we're having fun, but we are! :)
This is how Mackenzie spent the evening. This is part of the outfit Mackenzie let me play "dress up" with. My mom bought an adorable outfit from Gymboree and I absolutely love it. Maybe I'll post a picture of her with it on sometime this week.

The Addiction

Since most of my blog readers are also now my "friends" on Facebook, you know that I have recently started an account on Facebook. Can I just say that I thought reading blogs and posting blogs was an addiction...that is until Facebook! :) In the last few days I've gotten on the computer to look on facebook more times than I can count! Yes, I'm still feeding and caring for Mackenzie, but in any spare moment I'm in here on the computer. Yesterday I even pulled her play gym in here so she could play while I searched for "friends". I'm hoping the newness will wear off before I go back to work in January because I'm pretty sure I won't be allowed to be on the internet that much. For those that don't know facebook, when you log in at the top of your "wall" there is a place for you to say what you are doing. The other day I said that I was enjoying some free time while Mackenzie is sleeping. I haven't written anything since because I usually am doing the same thing when I'm on the computer! I feel kind of boring. :) So for those of you who blog and do facebook, do you post the same things on both sites? Are you addicted to facebook also? I'm determined to reduce the amount of tme on facebook this week. I might have to make it my New Years resolution!

Comparison

Me and Papa - 1980

Mackenzie and Papa - 2008

I know the pictures are kind of small, but I think she looks like me in this picture. Although, it could just be that we look similar because it's a baby girl in Papa's lap. There aren't too many of us girls in the Cook family to compare pictures with!

A note from Mackenzie

Thank you Aunt Aubrey and Uncle Dustin for my onesies. I really like these better than the ones my parents bought me. These are bigger and fit me better. The other one just like this one is in the wash because I had a little accident. Oops! :) I thought I'd show you how I like to like to relax during the day - in Momma or Daddy's arms.

My second way to relax is lying on the bed, couch, or blanket.

But my favorite is the bathtub. This is the life! :)

Fever

Having a fever of 101 and taking care of a 2 month baby stinks! Actually, having a fever of 101 would stink whether I had a baby or not! I do feel though, that Mackenzie realizes I'm sick, because she' been pretty good. In the words of Forrest Gump, "that's all I have to say about that." :)

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to us.
Merry Christmas to us.
Merry Christmas to Brandon & Charlton.
Merry Christmas to us.

(sung to the tune of Happy Birthday)

This is our Christmas present to ourselves 6 weeks early! Isn't it great. I told Brandon I was going to have to watch TV from the dining room, so that I wasn't so close! :) We've had the entertainment center for a couple of weeks, but the TV was delivered this morning. We also sold the XBox and bought a PS3 so we could play Blu-ray DVD's and they look awesome on our new TV! We got our presents early, so that we can focus on Mackenzie at Christmas. That sounds sweet, but actually, we just couldn't wait until Christmas! We are such good examples to our daughter! :)

Who do you think I'm going to blog about?!

Yep, of course I'm going to blog about Mackenzie. One of these days I might blog about something other than my daughter...you never know! ;)

Thursday, we went to the doctor and Mackenzie had her first set of shots and as you can imagine did not care for them at all! I also didn't like them and shed a few tears for her since she didn't shed actual tears. The silent scream and face in agony is enough...who needs the tears too. She is 9 lbs 3 oz, which is on the lower side, but she's healthy and doing great. The doctor said, "she does have big hands and feet for such a small girl." I agree and maybe I'll try and remember to take a photo soon so everyone else can see for themselves.

We went for our first stroller outing yesterday and it was a slight hit! She was content for most of the trip. In typical mommy fashion, I over dressed her. I thought it was a lot cooler outside than it was. She did really well for most of the trip, so I thought I would go a little longer and that's when she decided to cry. I realized that she was hot, so I took off the hat and jacket and she was content the rest of the way home. As it turns out, I think she got hot not only because I over dressed her, but also because she was filling her diaper and who wants to sit in that! :) She finally got to wear her pink and brown puma tennis shoes my parents bought her. As the doctor said, she does have big feet, so she already fills the shoes out pretty well. Hopefully, she'll still be able to wear them through Christmas - we'll see.

One of the few shots I have of Mackenzie with Brandon - notice Mackenzie's legs. For those of you who don't know, since she was born Mackenzie has always straddled (sp?) our body when she sleeps. Because she was breech, her legs naturally go in the "spread eagle" position. She's most comfortable laying like this.
All dressed up in her jumpsuit and tennis shoes. To be fair, I also overdressed myself and had to remove my jacket 5 minutes into the walk.

Book Shower

This past Saturday, friends and family gave me and Mackenzie a book shower. It was absolutely wonderful and we received so many great books. Mackenzie's library doubled in size. Look at her list on the right side of this blog and you'll have proof! The gift from the hostesses was a doll house book shelf. It is so cute and I can't wait to put it in her room with all of the books. Right now it's still in our living room, but soon it will be in her room. My aunt also made the great book tags with Mackenzie's name on them that we can put in her new books. Since Mackenzie's collection is elephants, we received several stuffed elephants, an elephant piggy bank, and the book tags have elephants on them. To everyone who attended my shower or sent gifts, I thank you and look forward to reading these books with Mackenzie!

Thanks Brenda, Rhonda, Kim, Olivia, Becky and Linda!

This is Mackenzie's adorable book shelf!

These are the water bottle covers my aunt made with Mackenzie's initials.

I borrowed this image from Rhonda, but these are the book tags and case she made Mackenzie! Aren't they so cute?!

Daytime Television

My last year of Grad school, I didn't have class until 3:00, so I was at home doing school work or working around the house the remainder of the time. I remember watching Regis and Kelly every morning, but I think I must have had Friends or movies on in the background the rest of the day, because I don't remember watching anything else. Fast forward to now and as Mackenzie and I slowly start to develop a schedule, I think I've become addicted to daytime television again. Here is the TV schedule:

9:00 - Regis and Kelly ( I don't usually turn on the TV before 9:00)
10:00 - The View (only for a few minutes until they start fighting and then I try and find something else, usually What not to Wear)
11:00 - morning news/What not to Wear (I've really come to love this show!)
12:00 - Ellen (I may not believe in her views, but she is hillarious!)
1:00 - 7th Heaven
2:00 - Rachel Ray
3:00 - What you get...(this is on the Fine Living Network and shows you different houses that cost certain amounts of money - yesterday was houses for $400,000)
4:00 - Jon & Kate plus 8
5:00 - 7th Heaven
6:00 - 7th Heaven (Brandon gives me a hard time for watching this show, but until now I don't think he realized how many times a day its on!)

I don't necessarily watch the TV all day, but it is on as background noise. I think it will slowly diminish as Mackenzie gets older and we can get out more. For the last week, Mackenzie has started sleeping for longer periods of time by herself without me having to hold her, so now I can actually do stuff around the house and am not tied to the couch or recliner. This afternoon, I think I'm going to try and take her for a walk in her stroller so we can breathe some fresh air.

On another note - I finally realized that I was misunderstanding the doctor. It's not that I couldn't take Mackenzie out in public until she was vaccinated, it's that since it's flu season, I shouldn't take her out for the first 8 weeks until her immune system is built up. It looks like I'll be taking pictures of her, instead of her, to my shower this weekend. She'll be 6 weeks this week, so eventually we'll introduce her to the world! :)

Just Pictures

I was informed by Brandon that I didn't post very flattering photos of Mackenzie in my last post. I apologize to Mackenzie and Brandon and hopefully these next photos will make up for the previous post. I am not however going to delete the pictures as requested, Mackenzie doesn't care - she's 5 weeks old! :)
I think she looks like such a big girl in these pajamas.

Our little Aggie! Thanks to my mom for the elephants!

A better one month photo.

Happy 1 Month Birthday

My mom bought Mackenzie a build-a-bear that I'm going to use every month when taking her picture. Yesterday I took the first picture of the two of them and this is what Mackenzie thought:

I'll try again today to see if I can get a better picture! Below are some other random pictures I've taken in the last 2 weeks.

"I like my swing sometimes!"

"Momma, this outfit is way too big!"

"I'm not sure what to think of my play gym."

2 week check up

So, I know this is a little late considering Mackenzie is now 3 weeks old, but last Friday we took her for her 2 week check up. She is now (was) 7 pounds 10 3/4 ounces and 21 inches long. She left the hospital weighing 6 pounds 13 ounces, so she gained almost a whole pound and grew 1 1/2 inches in 2 weeks! Everything at the appointment went well, but I hve to share something that really surprized me and I would like some opinions from the other mothers reading this blog.

Mackenzie goes back on November 18 for her 2 month ckeck up and to get vaccinated. Our pediatrician said that until she's vaccinated she shouldn't be out in public. I though this was very strange and a little much. Am I being selfish because I don't want to be cooped up in this house for two thirds of my maternity leave? According to the doctor we shouldn't taker her to church, the grocery store or anywher with large crwods. Call me crazy, but I would like for people to meet Mackenzie before she's 2 months old! I don't want to get Mackenzie sick, but at the same time I feel like the doctor is being way too strict. I've seen tons of babies younger thatn 2 months out in public. Should I stop my complaining and stay indoors until November? Should I ask for vaciinations early? Should I ingnore the doctor and go out anyway?

I think one of the things that annoys me about teh vaccination is that the doctor would vaccinate her early if I had to be back at work in 6 weeks. I guess I feel like because I have 3 months of maternity leave, I'm being punished to have to stay indoors. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE spending time with Mackenzie, but I also want to go to church, see my friends, and show off my daughter! Am I being selfish? Tell me what you think.

Newborn Photos

We had newborn pictures taken of Mackenzie when she was 1 week old. We were able to get a few pictures of her completely naked before she went to the bathroom on the photographer's blanket! After that, she was unhappy until we put a diaper on her. Finally, we fed her again and she fell asleep. Brandon and I have to choose 4 to be printed, but it's so hard to decide. Let me know what your favorites are.

Good Intentions

I apologize to all of you who have been waiting for more pictures of Mackenzie. Let's just say we've been a little busy this past week! :) We survived our first week at home thanks to my wonderful mom who stayed with us and got very liitle sleep and still managed to clean house, do laundry and change lots of diapers! Next week's helpers will be my aunt and mother-in-law. After that, I'll be on my own during the day. To borrow a phrase from Gone with the Wind, "I won't think about that today, I'll think about that tomorrow."

Anyways, Mackenzie is doing well. She really only fusses when her diaper needs to be changed and she's hungry. She sleeps really well when we hold her, so the couch and recliner have become our friends. Enjoy the pics from Mackenzie's first 9 days.
